Summer Olympics likely to be postponed due to COVID-19

Officially set to kick off on July 24th, the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, are now likely to be postponed in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Yesterday, the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee announced that it "will step up its scenario-plannined for the Olympic Games," setting a four-week timeframe for final decision on any changes to the Olympic schedule. Cancellation is not on their agenda.

Veteran IOC member Dick Pound told USA TODAY Sports today that the decision has essentially already been made to postpone the Summer Games.
