Oklahomans for Life: Hofmeister betrays the unborn, vows to repeal pro-life law

From Tony Lauinger, Oklahomans For Life state chairman:

Joy Hofmeister Betrays Unborn Children, Vows to Repeal Oklahoma’s Pro-Life Law
Gov. Kevin Stitt Has Been Pro-Life Champion

In a stunning betrayal of unborn children, gubernatorial candidate Joy Hofmeister has reversed the pro-life commitment she made when she entered public office. When she was elected Superintendent of Public Instruction in 2014, she promised to defend unborn children from abortion. Now she has abandoned that commitment.

The first question on our Oklahomans For Life Candidate Survey that year read as follows: “Upon reversal of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision, will you support a law that would protect the lives of unborn children and prohibit abortion except to prevent the death of the mother?”

Joy Hofmeister answered “Yes,” and signed her pledge.

Now the 49-year effort to reverse that abominable abortion decision has come to fruition and the U.S. Supreme Court has done exactly what that question anticipated – it has reversed Roe v. Wade; and the Oklahoma legislature and Governor Kevin Stitt have done what the question asked – they’ve enacted legislation to protect the lives of unborn children and prohibit abortion except to save the life of the mother.

Now Joy Hofmeister has not only abandoned her pledge to support such a law, she has vowed to repeal it (article in The Oklahoman by Carmen Forman, Oct. 17, 2022). The Oklahoma City newspaper story reads as follows:

“Hofmeister vows to repeal Oklahoma’s abortion ban”

“Hofmeister, Oklahoma's state schools superintendent, said she would push to repeal the state's abortion ban.

“She also has said the state's Texas-style abortion law is an invitation for ‘miscarriage bounty hunters.’”

Even Joy Hofmeister’s rhetoric mirrors that of the abortion industry.

Hofmeister’s website reiterates her pro-abortion position, saying that she “believes it is a healthcare decision between a woman and her doctor.”

The National Right to Life Committee has endorsed Governor Kevin Stitt for reelection in the November 8th General Election.

As Governor, Kevin Stitt vowed to sign every piece of pro-life legislation that came to his desk. He has kept that promise and, as a result, Oklahoma now has the most protective laws in the country in defending the lives of unborn children and their mothers.

Thank you.

Tony Lauinger, State Chairman
