Under the heading Justices of the Oklahoma Supreme Court are listed separately the names of Noma Gurich, Yvonne Kauger, and James Edmondson

All three of these justices have shown themselves to be relentlessly in opposition to protecting the lives of unborn children.

The wrong kind of history is being made in the Pro-Life movement

Something unprecedented is happening in the Pro-Life movement.

What do I mean?  Am I speaking of the overturning of Roe v. Wade last summer?  That was wonderful news, but no, that's not what I am referring to.

I am actually speaking about some very bad news.

First, let me give the background here.  Last year, the Oklahoma Legislature passed two outstanding bills to protect innocent, unborn life.  HB 4327 addressed civil law.  It was much like the Texas law on abortion that allowed civil lawsuits.  Our law was even better, because it went all the way back to conception, the beginning of life.

The other bill we passed addressed criminal law.  SB 612 made abortion a felony, with punishments up to 10 years in prison, and a fine up to $100,000.

These two bills combined make us the strongest state in the union to defend innocent, unborn life.  This is where we always wanted to be.  It is a dream come true!

So, what is the bad news then?  The bad news is that there is an organization that wants to weaken, water down, and partially dismantle our strongly pro-life laws.  Senate Bill 834 is a pro-choice bill that would add several exceptions to our laws against abortion, repeal our law against self-induced abortion, and protect contraceptives that act as abortifacients.  This is a significant loosening of our current law.

When she was elected Superintendent of Public Instruction in 2014, she promised to defend unborn children from abortion. Now she has abandoned that commitment.

Measure Would Grant Leniency to Serial Abortion-Law Violators

(October 15th, 2020 -- Oklahomans for Life) We urge your strong opposition to State Question 805 because of its effect on abortion in Oklahoma. State Question 805 is a proposed constitutional amendment which is on the November 3rd General Election ballot.

State Question 805 prohibits increased sentences (sentence “enhancements”) for repeat offenders who continue to commit “non-violent” felonies, thus limiting the time habitual criminals spend behind bars. Under State Question 805, abortion is classified as “non-violent.”

Even under the U.S. Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade, there are circumstances under which states can protect the lives of unborn children, and Oklahoma’s legislature has done so. Our state has passed laws prohibiting certain types of particularly heinous abortions – for example, partial-birth abortions – the commission of which are felonies.

Partial-birth abortion is a procedure in which the abortionist pulls a living baby feet-first out of the womb and into the birth canal, except for the head. The abortionist punctures the base of the baby’s skull with a surgical instrument, then inserts a tube into the wound and removes the baby's brain with a powerful suction machine. This causes the skull to collapse, after which the abortionist completes the delivery of the now-dead baby. Committing this heinous act in Oklahoma is a felony. Incredibly, under State Question 805, this is classified a “non-violent” felony. 

Two other pro-life laws, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act and the Unborn Child Protection from Dismemberment Abortion Act, would be similarly impacted by State Question 805. These are precisely the types of crimes for which State Question 805 would bestow on abortion criminals a “get-out-of-jail” card.

Oklahoma has had a particularly sordid history with abortion-industry practitioners. In the years since Roe v. Wade, media reports have chronicled two different instances in which Oklahoma-City-area abortionists have killed their wives. One of the abortionists was convicted of murder. [see link]

The other abortionist was convicted of manslaughter in his wife’s death. [see link]

According to court records, another abortion-mill operator, this one at an infamous Tulsa facility, was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder. The intended target of the murder-for-hire plot was his partner in the abortion mill. [see link]

Press reports indicate that yet another notorious abortionist was shut down for exploiting women and committing fraud, in some cases telling women they were pregnant when he knew they were not, and then selling them abortion-inducing drugs. Imagine the anguish of going through life believing you had aborted your baby – when, in fact, you had not actually been pregnant – just so a greedy shyster could exploit a woman’s panic in order to get a big fee. It is against this appalling and despicable backdrop that State Question 805 would treat abortion criminals as “first-time offenders” – even if, for example, they committed partial-birth abortions repeatedly as a business model – imposing on them only the same light fine or penalty each time. Compounding the injustice, State Question 805 is a constitutional change, which means the legislature could never go back and add partial-birth abortion to the list of “violent” crimes eligible for enhanced sentences for repeat offenders.  

For these reasons, we urge you to vote No on State Question 805.

Oklahomans For Life: Bice misrepresents pro-life record, no endorsement in CD5 primary

(June 18th) We have received a number of inquiries from residents of the 5th Congressional District about the use of the name and logo of Oklahomans For Life in the 5th District Republican Primary. Use of our name and logo in this race has been done without our knowledge or consent.

We have learned that residents of the 5th Congressional District have received several mailings in recent days implying, or stating outright, that one of the candidates in the Republican Primary has been endorsed by Oklahomans For Life. The mailings have been sent by, or on behalf of, the campaign of Stephanie Bice.

Oklahomans For Life has not endorsed anyone in the 5th Congressional District Republican Primary. Any claim to the contrary is incorrect.

The most recent mail piece says Stephanie Bice has been “Endorsed & Rated 100% Pro-Life by Oklahomans For Life, Inc.” Neither half of that assertion is accurate.

Oklahomans For Life has not endorsed Stephanie Bice in this, or any other race. Regarding the claim that she has been “Rated 100% Pro-Life by Oklahomans For Life,” there have been 14 pro-life bills for which we have advocated during the six years Stephanie Bice has been in the legislature. She has voted for 12 of the 14 bills. (The bills are on our website under “Votes.”)

There are several other candidates in the 5th Congressional District Republican Primary who are strongly pro-life, including David Hill, Janet Barresi, Michael Ballard, and Terry Neese. For one of the candidates, or her surrogates, to falsely claim the endorsement of Oklahomans For Life is an unacceptable misrepresentation – misleading to the voters of the district, unjust to the other candidates, and a disservice to the unborn child.

No endorsement has been made in the 5th District Republican Primary by Oklahomans For Life or National Right to Life. Several strongly pro-life candidates are competing for the Republican nomination. Those who have answered National Right to Life's Congressional Candidate Questionnaire with all pro-life answers are David Hill, Janet Barresi, Michael Ballard, Miles Rahimi, Terry Neese, and Stephanie Bice. The incumbent is radical pro-abortion Democrat Kendra Horn.

In addition to 37 detailed questions about legislation, the Candidate Questionnaire of National Right to Life asks this question: “Under what circumstances, if any, do you believe abortion should be legal?” The 5th Congressional District candidates’ answers to this question are as follows:

David Hill: “I am pro-life without exception.”
Janet Barresi: “Only to prevent the death of the mother (the NRL position).”
Michael Ballard: “Only to prevent the death of the mother (the NRL position).”
Miles Rahimi: “Only to prevent the death of the mother (the NRL position).”
Terry Neese: “To prevent the death of the mother, or in cases of rape reported to a law enforcement agency, or incest against a minor reported to a child abuse agency.”

Stephanie Bice: “To prevent the death of the mother, or in cases of rape reported to a law enforcement agency, or incest against a minor reported to a child abuse agency.”

Pro-Life groups endorse Stitt, all five GOP Congressional candidates

Oklahomans For Life sent out the following election alert yesterday, announcing that GOP gubernatorial candidate Kevin Stitt had been endorsed by National Right to Life, as well as candidates in each of Oklahoma's five congressional districts.

Stitt answered the candidate survey sent out by the state's largest Pro-Life organization, while his Democratic opponent, Drew Edmondson, refused to respond. Attention was also drawn to the 5th Congressional District race, where pro-life Congressman Steve Russell is being challenged by Democrat Kendra Horn. Horn is being promoted by a prominent left-wing pro-abortion group.

Boren Endorsed by Pro-Life Groups


2nd District Congressman Dan Boren (D-Muskogee) picked up two pro-life endorsements today for the Democratic primary.

Oklahoma City, OK (LifeNews.com) -- When a coalition of pro-life Democrats walked out on the pro-life groups which strenuously opposed the pro-abortion health care bill President Barack Obama eventually signed, Congressman Dan Boren of Oklahoma was one of the few to not jump ship.

Today, the National Right to Life Committee and its Oklahoma affiliate rewarded the pro-life Democrat with an endorsement.

The backing comes at a time when other pro-life Democratic candidates in states like Ohio, Indiana and Michigan, lost their endorsements because of their support of the government-run health care plan containing massive taxpayer financing of abortions.

The NRLC PAC endorsed Boren of Oklahoma’s 2nd congressional district in the July 27 Democratic Primary.

The group told LifeNews.com Boren has had a 100% pro-life voting record during the 111th Congress and it thanked him for opposing the health care bill.

“Congressman Dan Boren is to be commended for his efforts to prevent the Democratic health-care legislation from mandating coverage of abortion and federal funding of abortion,” said National Right to Life Vice President and Chairman of Oklahomans For Life, Tony Lauinger.

“His efforts included spearheading a June 2009 letter from pro-life House Democrats to Speaker Nancy Pelosi, stating that they could not ‘support any health care reform proposal unless it explicitly excludes abortion from the scope of any government-defined or subsidized health insurance plan,'" Lauinger said. "When the necessary pro-life safeguards were not included in the final health-care legislation, Congressman Boren kept his word and opposed the pro-abortion bill.”

Also announcing a run for the Democratic nomination for the 2nd congressional district seat is state Senator Jim Wilson, one of the most outspokenly pro-abortion members of the Oklahoma legislature.

Over the past four years, on 23 key abortion-related votes scored by Oklahomans For Life, Jim Wilson was absent once, voted pro-life once, and voted pro-abortion 21 times.

“Senator Wilson is so extreme on abortion that he even opposed a bill which protects against coerced abortions and seeks to ensure that a mother's consent to an abortion is truly voluntary," Lauinger said.

As was stated, Wilson is very liberal, not only on pro-life issues, but on practically every other topic. He specifically stated Boren's 'no' vote on "ObamaCare" as his reason for challenging Boren; Wilson is a huge supporter of the healthcare plan.

In addition to Wilson, Boren is also being challenged by Republicans Daniel Edmonds, Charles Thompson, Chester Falling and Dan Arnett, all of whom filed for office yesterday or today. Howard Houchen, another announced Republican candidate, has not filed his candidacy yet.

Rose Day, and a Pro-Life Column

Today is the annual pro-life Rose Day at the State Capitol, when pro-lifers are encouraged to visit lawmakers to urge them to support the pro-life legislation presented during the session. Red roses are handed out to the legislators to represent the sanctity of life.

In honor of Rose Day, I will post a recent column written by local State Rep. George Faught (R, Muskogee) on the importance of life. This ran in the Muskogee Phoenix and the Tulsa Beacon.

Our Declaration of Independence contains the following words in the second paragraph – “We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that are among them Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”

It then begins to lay out the case for protecting these rights and what should be the people’s role and that of government. I wonder if we as a society still believe in these rights the way they positioned in the Declaration of Independence.

January 18-25 was ‘Sanctity of Human Life Week’, which brought into focus the preciousness of all life; from the elderly to the most innocent of lives, those of the unborn.

It is important to note that of the three unalienable rights listed in the Declaration of Independence, “life” is first mentioned. I believe it is no accident that our forefathers listed it thus, because it is the most important.

Yes, we have personal “liberty” as long as it does not interfere with the life of someone else. Yes, we may engage in the “pursuit of happiness” as long as it does not interfere with someone’s liberty.

But it all starts with “life.”

The Bible has a lot to say about life. In Psalms 139:14 it says, “I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” God’s Word speaks volumes of how precious the gift of life is and how it should be protected.

Our society has turned upside down those rights in the Declaration of Independence, emphasizing the pursuit of happiness, rather than life.

The common thought is, “If it makes me happy, then it is okay, regardless of the consequences.” Our personal desires are selfishly elevated above the liberties of others.

Is there any room in this equation for life? Only for convenience sake, if it fits our schedule.

Our society has judged those babies who have come at an inconvenient time or whose medical condition shows an abnormality to not have value, and says that they can be discarded with a simple procedure. When the elderly become weak and feeble we seek to place them out of sight so as to not cramp our lifestyle.

We as a nation stand at a crossroads. Who will stand up and become the voice for those who are yet to be born and the elderly? The unborn did not choose their parents or circumstances surrounding their birth. Our elders spent their entire lives caring for us. Don’t the weakest and most vulnerable in our society deserve the same rights guaranteed the citizens of this great nation, of “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness”?

We have placed a greater value on our personal happiness and liberties than we have the God-ordained gift of Life. All life is precious, and must be protected from conception to natural end.
