Senate candidate Alex Gray wants to fix McGirt ruling by disestablishing Five Civilized Tribes reservations

In a radio interview on the Hugh Hewitt Show yesterday, U.S. Senate special election candidate Alex Gray dropped a political bombshell when he pledged to author legislation to "disestablish the five historic Indian reservations that the U.S. Supreme Court in McGirt kind of created out of whole cloth [... to] start the process of fixing the mess that McGirt put us in."

TW Shannon signs Term Limits pledge

For years, Oklahoma's two U.S. Senators took diametrically opposed stances on term limits. Tom Coburn was the poster child for principled support of congressional term limits, going further than mere lip service and self-imposing them on himself. Jim Inhofe, however, much like with his vehement support of earmarks, disdained the idea of term limits.

Markwayne Mullin infamously broke his own term limits pledge, and continues to stumble and bumble as he tries to explain away why he did so (see Mullin: my term limits pledge didn't matter because "my life experience changed"). One can only assume that Luke Holland, Inhofe's hand-picked successor, has similar views on term limits (and earmarks) to his boss.

T.W. Shannon joins fellow Senate hopefuls Alex Gray and Nathan Dahm in signing the U.S. Term Limits Pledge, vowing to co-sponsor and vote for a term limits constitutional amendment.

Should be an interesting showdown in the Senate primary.

Senate candidate Alex Gray signs term limits support pledge

For ten years, Oklahoma had two Senators who took diametrically opposed views on term limits. On one side was Sen. Jim Inhofe, who vehemently opposed term limits (he's been in Washington since 1987, after all). On the other side was Dr. Tom Coburn, who was perhaps the most famous and principled of the term limits advocates on Capitol Hill.

Coburn went above and beyond merely pledging support for term limits, and held himself to a self-imposed limit of three terms in the House and two terms in the Senate (ultimately resigning partway through his second Senate term).

With Inhofe moving off the scene and sparking a special election, one of the candidates vying to replace him is taking more of the Coburn side of things. Alex Gray signed the U.S. Term Limits candidate pledge.

For what it's worth, fellow Senate candidate and sitting congressman Markwayne Mullin signed the same pledge in 2012, then proceeded to trash it when political power and prestige became too irresistable (plus, his "life experience changed", which makes it a-okay to break your word).

Gray's press release:

Former CA Gov Pete Wilson endorses Alex Gray's Senate bid

ALEX GRAY FOR UNITED STATES SENATE GAINS ENDORSEMENT OF FORMER U.S. SENATOR AND GOVERNOR OF CALIFORNIA PETE WILSON

Oklahoma City, OK (March 29th) – Today, former Trump national security official and U.S. Senate candidate Alex Gray has received the endorsement of Governor Pete Wilson. This marks the eleventh high-profile endorsement since Gray announced his candidacy earlier this month.

Wilson served the state of California as a United States Senator from 1983 until he was elected the 36th Governor of California in 1991. He has been a national leader in the fight against illegal immigration and to secure our borders for decades. A close friend of President Ronald Reagan, Wilson has been a conservative icon for decades.

“No one understands better than Alex Gray that America's national security urgently depends upon strict control of our borders, and the careful vetting of immigrants to assure enforcement of our immigration laws.  His four years of service to President Trump in the White House included his critically important role as Chief of Staff of the National Security Council.  He knows that anything less than constant rigorous enforcement of our immigration laws threatens a clear and present danger to America’s safety.

In the Senate, Alex Gray will champion the rule of law to uphold America's sovereignty and demand the safety of our citizens.” said Governor Wilson in a statement endorsing Alex Gray.

“Governor Wilson has been on the frontlines of the battle to control our border and enforce our immigration laws for decades. He was a fighter for conservative values in the Senate and as Governor, with many of his policies anticipating the America First movement of President Trump. I could not be more proud to have his support in my own bid for the U.S. Senate,” Gray said in response to the endorsement.

He played a key role in implementing President Trump's national security agenda, and will be a tireless advocate for an America First foreign policy in the U.S. Senate."

“Our relationship with Israel is paramount in securing America’s interests across the world. Ambassador Friedman was on the frontlines promoting those interests and is one of the greatest promoters of the U.S.-Israel partnershipin history. His support is a huge boost for our campaign, and continues the pattern of President Trump’s closest and most loyal supporters backing this effort. I look forward to continuing the progress we made in the Middle East during President Trump’s tenure when I am elected to the Senate and serving as a leading voice for the U.S.-Israel partnership,” Gray said in response to the endorsement.

“Just like me, Alex Gray appreciates the imminent national security threat posed by our unsecured southern border. I spent over two decades as the Sheriff of Maricopa County aggressively fighting to secure our border. While I was very successful in enforcing our immigration laws locally, I recognize the need for strong America First Patriots in Federal office to secure our southern border and stop our immigration crisis. That is why I am giving my full support and endorsement to Alex Gray, who truly understands the national security implications of this crisis from his service in the Trump White House, in his bid for Senate in Oklahoma,” Sheriff Joe said in a statement endorsing Alex Gray.

Sen. Mike Lee endorses Alex Gray in Senate special election

Senate candidate Alex Gray continues with a steady stream of news in the past few days. He announced $100k in fundraising during his first campaign's 24 hours, plus endorsements by two figures in the Trump administration (Ric Grenell and Kash Patel). Gray drops a hint that he has additional endorsements coming soon.

This news was first broken by Erick Erickson, nationally syndicated radio host and commentator.

Lee becomes the third sitting U.S. Senator to endorse a candidate in this race so far. Sen. Jim Inhofe started things off by endorsing of his chief of staff, Luke Holland, when he made his retirement announcement. Sen. Rand Paul has endorsed State Sen. Nathan Dahm. U.S. Rep. Markwayne Mullin has not issued any endorsements, but he figures to be the frontrunner due to his name recognition and deep personal pockets.

Additional individuals are still rumored to be considering running, including Rep. Kevin Hern, former Rep. J.C. Watts, former Ambassador Kyle McCarter, former State House Speaker T.W. Shannon, and former State Rep. Paul Wesselhoft.

As one of the key national-security officials for President Trump, Alex helped make America great again. He has my complete and total endorsement in his U.S. Senate campaign!” said Senator Mike Lee in a statement endorsing Alex Gray.

Oklahoma City, OK – Today, former Trump Administration national security official, Alex Gray, only 24 hours after announcing his run for U.S. Senate in the special election to replace retiring Jim Inhofe, has raised over $100,000 for his campaign war chest.
