Brecheen: Why I voted Yes on the 'One Big Beautiful Bill'

Good commentary from Oklahoma's best member of Congress, explaining his rationale on joining all but three House Republicans in voting for President Trump's 'One Big Beautiful [mega-spending] Bill':

Why I Voted Yes on the One Big Beautiful Bill
by Congressman Josh Brecheen (R, OK-02)

Writing to Henry Knox in 1795 as he faced the intense national debate over the Jay Treaty, George Washington described his lack of perfect wisdom: “I have found no better guide hitherto than upright intentions, and close investigation.” Not claiming to be an infallible man, Washington relied upon his honest convictions and a close examination of the facts to guide him through difficult decisions.

The cornerstone of upright intentions is truth.

Oklahomans rightly expect their representatives to embody upright intentions, be guided by the truth, and diligently represent them. That’s why, after a week of tough negotiations, I changed my vote on the One Big Beautiful Bill—in good conscience first voting “no” in committee, then “present” in committee to allow it to pass, and finally a “yes” on the floor after the bill was improved. I want you to know why.

U.S. Congressman Josh Brecheen (OK-2) Endorses Mike Mazzei for Governor

Tulsa, OK (April 9th) – Oklahoma’s 2nd District Congressman Josh Brecheen endorses former State Senator and candidate Mike Mazzei for Governor of Oklahoma.

“Our country faces an unsustainable debt level because fiscal mismanagement has become a cultural phenomenon. Voters must approach the next election with great discernment - recognizing who has the essential qualifications and proven record of right-sizing government, and the demonstrated backbone to withstand the pressure of those who would sacrifice tomorrow’s freedom and security for today’s fleeting wants.

Brecheen introduces resolution condemning Bishop's political remarks at Nat'l Prayer Service

In case you hadn't heard, a flaming progressive woke pagan Episcopalian - these days a redundant phrase - female bishop used her 'bully pulpit' at the National Prayer Service to lambast President Trump (never mind the ridiculous fact that such a service was being held at a church belonging to a spiritually-bankrupt denomination and led by an biblically-unqualified impastor).

Oklahoma Congressman Josh Brecheen was in attendance at the service, and walked out in protest.

Congressman Josh Brecheen, Senator Rick Scott Introduce Debt-Per-Citizen Transparency Act

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Josh Brecheen and Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) introduced the Debt-Per-Citizen Transparency Act, which requires all Congressional Budget Office (CBO) cost estimates to include how much the bill will affect the total debt-to-citizen ratio.

“With our national debt at more than $35 trillion, it is essential that lawmakers are made aware of how much legislation will affect the total debt-per-citizen ratio before voting on it,” said Congressman Josh Brecheen. “Every child born today owes more than $104,000 as their share of our national debt. It is long past time we reverse this curse and stop stealing prosperity from our children and our grandchildren.”

Cong. Brecheen to speak at launch of new Oklahoma Freedom Caucus on Tuesday

Conservatives in the Oklahoma Legislature are gaining a new tool for organization and action. The State Freedom Caucus Network announced today that the Oklahoma Freedom Caucus will be holding a launch on Tuesday at the State Capitol, featuring Congressman Josh Brecheen, himself a member of the U.S. House Freedom Caucus and a former Oklahoma state senator from the stalwart conservative wing.

A similar effort took place in 2017 with the formation of the Platform Caucus. Although many of the members were controversially taken out in the 2018 primaries and runoffs by the well-monied moderate establishment, the Platform Caucus had some success in killing some tax hike proposals in 2017 and 2018.

Launch of the New Oklahoma Freedom Caucus

Washington, D.C. (August 14th) – Congressman Josh Brecheen opposes the Southeast Oklahoma Power Corporation’s (SEOPC) attempts to build a hydroelectric power plant on the Kiamichi River in LeFlore and Pushmataha Counties.

SEOPC has ties to a Chinese Communist Party-linked individual and the project would require the eminent domaining of 35,000 acres of Oklahoma land, including many homes, farms, and ranches in the surrounding area that have been owned by Oklahoma families for generations. All the power produced would then be sold in Texas, not Oklahoma.

Oklahoma leaders mourn passing of former U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe

Oklahoma political icon James Mountain Inhofe passed away at the age of 89 on Tuesday following a stroke. The longest serving U.S. Senator in Oklahoma history, Inhofe had a storied political career that began in the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 1966, and included stints in the Oklahoma Senate, as Tulsa Mayor, then the U.S. House of Representatives before winning a seat in the U.S. Senate in 1994.

I didn't realize this, but Inhofe played a key role in getting the USS Batfish submarine to Oklahoma (originally intended for Tulsa, it found a home instead in Muskogee.

Below are statements from various elected officials:
