Vote against Judge Jane Wiseman

Among the statewide judges up for retention this year is Judge Jane P. Wiseman of the Oklahoma Court of Civil Appeals (read more about this year's judicial retention ballot here).

A key figure in the Left's long march to reshape Oklahoma's conservative, Christian-rooted culture, Wiseman officiated Oklahoma's first same-sex marriage, calling it a "joyous occasion." Her liberal record stretches much further back, but this distinction sets her apart from the other judges on Oklahoma's appellate courts. Christians and conservatives have strong grounds to oppose her.

Oklahoma voters overwhelmingly passed State Question 711 in 2004 with 75.6% of the vote, adding a constitutional amendment that defined marriage as "consist[ing] only of the union of one man and one woman". Left-wing activist judges overturned that in 2014, and Wiseman chose to defy both God and Oklahoma values by officiating a same-sex marriage on the very day the stay was lifted.

Wiseman was appointed in 2005 to the Court of Civil Appeals by Democratic Governor Brad Henry, when he was still attempting to masquerade as a moderate. Let this be a warning to those considering voting for the unashamedly progressive Democratic gubernatorial nominee Cyndi Munson.  If Henry's appointments included judges like Wiseman, imagine the kind of judges Munson would appoint. Judges with the leftist philosophy of Wiseman would likely be the baseline norm for Munson appointments.

The Tulsa Beacon, Oklahoma's premier Christian newspaper, wrote op-eds in 2014 and 2020 urging Christian voters to oppose Wiseman.

Judge Wiseman is up for retention, meaning if she receives a majority of votes cast, she will stay on as judge. If a majority of votes are cast against retention — something that has only happened once, when voters ousted Supreme Court Justice Yvonne Kauger in 2024  — the governor gets to appoint a new judge. It can be done again, with a defeat of Wiseman.

This is a six-year term on the bench, and Oklahoma voters have the opportunity to make their voices heard. Spread the word, tell your friends and family and your church, and vote NO on retaining Judge Jane P. Wiseman on Tuesday, November 3rd.
