(June 18, 2025) –  Today, Congressman Josh Brecheen (R-OK), Senator James Lankford (R-OK), and over 20 lawmakers sent a letter to the Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Lee Zeldin inquiring about the full negative effects of the chemical abortion drug mifepristone, specifically on its potential contaminant effects on America’s water supply.

Hamilton and Deevers Respond to Claims of ‘Zero’ Abortions, Highlight the Estimated 3,274 Annual Abortions in Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY (January 3rd) — Sen. Dusty Deevers, R-Elgin, and Sen. Warren Hamilton, R-McCurtain, responded on Friday to comments made by Oklahoma House Speaker Kyle Hilbert regarding abortion legislation in the upcoming session. Hilbert is quoted by Oklahoma Voice as saying, “When there’s not any reported abortions, I don’t know how you further reduce from zero.”

“As a pastor and local activist, I have been engaged in the fight to protect preborn children for years prior to becoming a Senator. I have much respect for Speaker Hilbert as Christian man, but as much as I desperately wish there were zero abortions in Oklahoma, zero ‘reported’ abortions is not the same thing as zero abortions,” Deevers said. “Data shows that roughly 3,274 self-managed abortions are legally performed annually in Oklahoma in addition to 4,000 abortions committed by Oklahomans driving to other states.”

Pregnancy, especially when it is unexpected, is a “heart issue” that involves a mom, a dad, a baby, and their families. Unfortunately, our culture often speaks about the issue of life flippantly and with political motivation, causing these already complicated conversations to get more complicated, more caustic, and more divisive.

I believe all people—all people—are created in the image of God, have value and worth, and deserve to be treated with respect. I believe I have a responsibility to speak up for the lives of the children who have no way to speak for themselves. Babies are not disposable; they are valuable. Babies are not an inconvenience; they are lives full of potential and worth.

Maybe we just need to resolve the most basic of questions: when is a child a child?

The sound of a baby’s heartbeat in the womb is a sound you will never forget. But every two seconds a baby is aborted, meaning that with every beat of your heart, a baby loses his or her right to life. If that sounds sad and shocking, it’s because it is.

The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments Dec. 1 in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which is about a Mississippi law that prohibits abortion after 15 weeks.

Roe v. Wade in 1973 forced every state to legalize abortion before a baby was considered "viable," which was then assumed to be around 28 weeks but is now around 21 weeks. The Dobbs case will determine if states can protect the lives of children before "viability," which would strike at the heart of the Roe decision. Just for context, since the Roe v. Wade decision in 1973, more than 50 million babies have been aborted in the US.

I, along with more than 200 other members of Congress, filed a brief with the Supreme Court in support of the Mississippi law. Our nation should not ignore the most vulnerable in our society, and we should pay attention to the clear science that shows a child in the womb is not random tissue. It is a baby with unique DNA and fingerprints on tiny fingers.
