Gov. Stitt, Wildlife Conservation go to battle with AG Drummond over rule of law

Governor Stitt Fights for Rule of Law, Wildlife Conservation

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (November 20, 2025) – In the wake of Attorney General Drummond’s decision to put the desires of political donors above Oklahoma law, Governor Stitt doubled down on his commitment to upholding the rule of law, regardless of race. He applauded the Wildlife Commission’s decision to order the Attorney General to stop interfering with their duty to uphold the law and opt to hire an independent attorney that will defend their position.

“The most core American value is that laws are applied equally regardless of race,” said Governor Stitt. “The courts have been clear time and time again, the application of the misguided McGirt decision does not extend to every part of Oklahoma life. The state can and will continue to enforce wildlife laws, traffic laws, and tax laws to every Oklahoman.”

Tickets included bear baiting, spotlighting, hunting without a license on state owned property and hunting without a license on federal land that is managed by OWDC.

“Like many sportsmen with tribal affiliations, I purchased a lifetime hunting and fishing license years ago to support the conservation efforts of the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation,” continued Gov. Stitt. “Regardless of my heritage, I recognize the importance of hunting and fishing law being applied to all who enjoy the outdoors in our state.”

The outdoor recreation industry vocalized its support of Governor Stitt’s position.

“Oklahoma’s wildlife populations are shared by all who call this state home,” said Suzie Brewster, President of Oklahoma Wildlife Management Association. “Effective conservation cannot succeed when enforcement standards are inconsistent. The absence of enforcement creates uncertainty and considerable safety issues for anglers, hunters, landowners, and conservation professionals, and ultimately places unnecessary strain on the ecosystems we all rely upon. Stewardship of wildlife resources must be coordinated in a manner that sustains populations, prevents overharvest, and preserves habitat for future generations. Governor Stitt’s efforts to clarify and strengthen statewide enforcement are essential to that mission.”

“Whitetail of Oklahoma remains committed to the long tradition of hunting  in Oklahoma,” said Chris Ezell, President of Whitetails of Oklahoma. “Outdoor recreation is a vital part of Oklahoma’s heritage. We will continue advocating for policies that ensure clear regulations, consistent enforcement, and a thriving future for all who enjoy our great outdoors.
