Tulsa 9.12 Project corrects record, opposes Mayor Nichols' tax hike proposal

Tulsa 9.12 Project Responds to Claims of Supporting Mayor Nichol’s Tax Increase Proposal

(Tulsa, OK -- Nov. 5th) Over the last several days, we’ve received a remarkable number of texts and calls regarding false information being circulated to city councilors and constituents suggesting that Tulsa 9.12 Project supports Mayor Nichols’ upcoming tax proposal.

Allow us to be perfectly clear:
We. Do. Not.

Since our founding, Tulsa 9.12 Project and the individuals representing the leadership of Tulsa 9.12 have stood firmly and consistently against tax increases — whether they come as sales tax hikes, school/county/city bonds that keep property taxes high, or the largest tax increase in Oklahoma history passed by the legislature without voter approval.

Our record isn’t just clear — it’s archived, documented, and well-known.

Recently, we hosted Mayor Monroe Nichols at our meeting, where he spoke directly with citizens for over an hour and a half. During that conversation, he expressed willingness to discuss raising additional revenue for the City of Tulsa — a conversation that hasn’t occurred since Jim Inhofe was mayor.

Discussion does not equal endorsement.
Hosting a guest does not equal agreement.
And being civil does not equal surrender.

To repeat:

Never did Tulsa 9.12 Project or the individuals representing the leadership of Tulsa 9.12 Project express support for the mayor’s tax proposal.

What we would support are tax reductions that actually provide relief to Tulsa families — including:

  • Ending the city sales tax on groceries, which affects every household in our city
  • Eliminating property taxes for seniors and veterans, who deserve meaningful, lasting tax relief

These are the kinds of proposals that lighten the burden on citizens — not grow government.

So let us say this plainly, once and for all:

Tulsa 9.12 Project has never — and will never — support increasing taxes to grow government. EVER.

If anyone is using the approval of Tulsa 9.12 Project or the individuals representing the leadership of Tulsa 9.12 Project to promote this proposal, we would strongly recommend they fact check our very public record. Our stance on taxes has not wavered, shifted, softened, evolved, or “matured.” It’s as firm as ever: We stand opposed.

Tulsa 9.12 Project is a conservative grassroots organization established in 2009 whose focus is educating, empowering and activating concerned citizens, promoting smaller government, lower taxes, fiscal accountability, and personal responsibility.
