OKLAHOMA CITY (Feb. 17th) – Support for the total abolition of abortion reached historic levels Monday as hundreds of abolitionists gathered at the capitol for the annual Abolition Day rally. Following the rally, House Bill 3038 surged to 25 authors and co-authors, more than tripling the support of any previous abolition measure in Oklahoma history, and surpassing any of the abolition bills that have been introduced in 27 different states.
HB3038, introduced by Rep. Gabe Woolley and Sen. Warren Hamilton, would extend the equal protection of the law to children in the womb–as guaranteed in the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution–and close the loopholes in Oklahoma law that permit self-managed abortion, making it illegal for anyone to intentionally kill an unborn child.
Senator coauthors include Senators. Dusty Deevers, Avery Frix, Julie McIntosh, Tom Woods, Dana Prieto, Shane Jett, Bryan Logan, Lisa Standridge, Jack Stewart, Randy Grellner, and George Burns. House coauthors include Representatives David Hardin, Derrick Hildebrant, Jim Olsen, Tim Turner, Chris Sneed, J.J. Humphrey, Neil Hays, Jim Shaw, Molly Jenkins, Tom Gann, Jason Blair, and David Smith.
“I'm deeply grateful to the 24 co-authors of HB3038 for standing together for equal protection and equal justice for the preborn,” Woolley said. “Their courage and leadership are helping build real momentum for a culture that recognizes the dignity of every human life. This is a truly historic moment—we have never before seen this level of support or this many co-authors come together for this cause. As we work to stop the murder of God’s image-bearers, we affirm that every life is sacred—and honoring and protecting them ultimately glorifies God. This is a powerful step forward, and I’m thankful for each member who has joined in this effort.”
“This many signatories is the most in Oklahoma history—because faithful Christians refused to stay silent, but rather rose in holy obedience to the living God,” Deevers said. “The Abolitionist Movement is growing. What began as a whisper of faithfulness has become an unstoppable chorus declaring that Christ is Lord over all. When we pray ‘Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven,’ we mean it for justice for the preborn, too. Abortion will be abolished. It is only a matter of time.”
“It will always be my position that preborn babies are fully human and deserve the same protection under law afforded to babies already born and to any other human being,” Hamilton said.
"Proverbs 6:16-19 is unmistakably clear: the Lord hates ‘hands that shed innocent blood,’” Jett said. “If we desire God's blessing to rest upon our state, we must do justice for the most vulnerable among us and love our pre-born neighbors as ourselves—by extending to them the equal protection of the law. We dare not court the judgment of heaven by refusing to defend innocent unborn life.”
House Bill 3038 is awaiting a hearing in the House Criminal Judiciary Committee.
