Brecheen seeks to end taxpayer funding after finding $31M going to transgender studies preying on children

Congressman Josh Brecheen Introduces No Taxpayer Funding for Researchers Who Prey on Children Act

Washington, D.C. (Nov. 2nd) – Congressman Josh Brecheen introduced the No Taxpayer Funding for Researchers Who Prey on Children Act, which would prohibit any individual who has been a Principal Investigator/Project Leader for any study that facilitated “gender-affirming care” or affirmed a minor’s identity in conflict with his or her sex from receiving federal financial assistance for future studies or experiments.

“Americans should be outraged to learn that nearly $31 million of our taxpayer dollars are funding youth transgender studies that have even led to the suicides of two participants. The researchers conducting these studies are advocates for harming minors and are using our tax dollars to prey on children and advance their far-Left agenda. This legislation is unfortunately needed to prevent researchers from receiving any more of our tax dollars for future studies or experiments,” said Congressman Josh Brecheen.

The Daily Signal’s Mary Margaret Olohan wrote an exclusive report on the bill, which you can read here.

Co-sponsors of the bill include: Representatives Ralph Norman (R-SC), Mary Miller (R-IL), Eric Burlison (R-MO), David Rouzer (R-NC), Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ), Glenn Grothman (R-WI), Barry Moore (R-AL), Paul Gosar (R-AZ), and Andy Ogles (R-TN).

This legislation has been endorsed by the Congressional Family Caucus and the American Principles Project.

The bill comes after Congressman Brecheen sent a letter in May to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) regarding a federally funded study on youth who identified as transgender or nonbinary that concluded in the suicide of two participants.

NIH responded to the letter in September and sent a list of government-funded “studies involving transgender or nonbinary children.” The list amounts to nearly $30.8 million in current funding and is comprised of 57 projects. Some of the more egregious studies include:

  • Exploring the Frequency of Rectal Gonorrhea and Chlamydia from Sexual Behaviors Other Than Receptive Anal Intercourse
  • Effectiveness of Relationship Education for Reducing HIV Incidence in Men Who Have Sex with Men
  • The Impact of Early Medical Treatment in Transgender Youth
  • Sex Hormone Effects on Neurodevelopment: Controlled Puberty in Transgender Adolescents
