OSDE to offer free training for school board members

Equipping School Boards to Lead: OSDE Offers Free Statewide Training
New initiative offers high-quality, no-cost governance support for school districts.

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — The Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE), under the leadership of Superintendent Ryan Walters is proud to announce a major step toward strengthening local school governance by providing high-quality training for school board members at no cost to districts across the state.

This new initiative will deliver training that is practical, locally relevant, and grounded in the real-world challenges of school board governance. OSDE is committed to helping districts and boards build stronger partnerships through more streamlined communication, clearer expectations, and more effective support.

“We are committed to empowering Oklahoma school boards with the tools they need to lead effectively.” said Walters, “We believe effective governance should never come at a cost to our schools and students. This initiative ensures every board member has access to the tools and support they need to lead with excellence.”

In line with this commitment, OSDE is pleased to announce the Annual Governance Conference—formerly the Annual Administrative Conference—will be held July 31 and August 1, 2025, at the University of Central Oklahoma Night Center.

  • July 31 will be dedicated to new board member training.
  • August 1 will include sessions for both new and incumbent board members.

Details on session topics and registration will be shared soon. OSDE thanks school board members for their ongoing service and their dedication to Oklahoma’s students.
