JCPenney announces closure of Muskogee store, 5 other locations in Oklahoma


Following financial difficulties, Chapter 11 bankruptcy and a "Store Optimization Strategy", the iconic shopping chain JCPenney is closing 154 stores across the country, including their location in Muskogee.

Following a comprehensive review of our retail footprint, JCPenney made the difficult decision to close 154 stores. We will continue to operate the majority of our stores and our flagship store, jcp.com, to ensure our valued customers continue to have access to the products and brands they need and want. JCPenney is the last "anchor" store left in Muskogee's Arrowhead Mall, which has been on a slow decline for most of the past decade, a challenge faced by many shopping malls across the nation.
