Sen. Grellner files simplified state question bill to move Medicaid expansion from Constitution to state statute

Oklahoma Freedom Caucus Issues Statement on Filing Bill to Remove Medicaid from Constitution

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — The Oklahoma Freedom Caucus today announced the filing of SJR55 to remove Medicaid expansion from the Oklahoma Constitution and place it into state statute.

This straightforward, clean measure restores legislative oversight without unnecessary complications or triggers. It stands in stark contrast to the watered-down "compromise" version negotiated with the liberal, ObamaCare-supporting hospital association that leadership is attempting to ram through the Senate.

“Oklahomans deserve accountable government, not policies locked into our Constitution that tie the hands of elected representatives,” said Senator Randy Grellner. “Our bill provides a clean and simple path forward: move ALL the expansion to statute where future lawmakers can make responsible adjustments to protect Oklahoman citizens and their taxpayer dollars. There is no need for the proposed compromise with carve outs that keep some  provisions of ObamaCare in order to protect lobbyists, corporate cronyism, the donor class, and bureaucrats profiteering from the current system.”

The Freedom Caucus bill prioritizes fiscal responsibility and legislative oversight while presenting to the voters an opportunity to correct the previous state question that barely passed with 50.49% - just over a 6,500 vote difference out of 674,951 votes - in a June
