OKLAHOMA CITY – The University of Oklahoma has once again proven that radical woke ideology continues to control its campus. Last week, psychology junior Samantha Fulnecky received a zero on an assignment for citing the Bible while defending traditional gender roles. Her instructor branded the reference “highly offensive” and punished her for holding Christian beliefs. 

This is only the latest outrage. These events mirror prior Freedom Caucus warnings about OU's descent into radical activism. The university's leftist culture enables the destruction of conservative materials, fosters an unsafe environment for patriotic students, and prioritizes ideological conformity over education—turning campuses into echo chambers where conservative ideas are not debated but demolished. All while university leadership issues weak statements, refuses to meet with Conservative students, and imposes no serious discipline.

As Sen. Lisa Standridge (R-Norman) warned in an open letter, this "reprehensible" harassment—echoing the tragic assassination of TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk—creates a chilling effect on free speech, where 42% of OU students reportedly justify violence to silence opposing views.

“Punishing a student for quoting Scripture while tolerating violence against conservatives shows exactly who runs the leftist asylum at OU,” said Freedom Caucus Chairman Sen. Shane Jett (R-Shawnee). “Oklahoma taxpayers should not continue bankrolling indoctrination mills that violate the First Amendment. Placing the instructor on leave is not sufficient. It’s another weak and cowardly response.”

The Oklahoma Freedom Caucus demands:

• Immediate reversal of the failing grade and a public apology to the student
• Expulsion of students who vandalized TPUSA property
• A legislative audit of ideological bias in curriculum, grading, and hiring

Cuts to state funding for higher education institutions until free speech and religious liberty are verifiably protected so conservatives are no longer targeted while leftists rage and roam across campus violating the rights of others

If President Harroz and the Board of Regents refuse major, immediate reform, the Oklahoma Freedom Caucus will introduce legislation in 2026 to defund OU and every public university that chooses leftist lunacy over American ideals and foundational principles.
