Planned Parenthood Received $244k from the State of Oklahoma in 2010

State Rep. Jason Murphey (R-Guthrie) stumbled, almost by accident, upon a startling fact: Planned Parenthood of Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma received $244,723.96 from the State of Oklahoma from July 2010 through the end of the year.

Rep. Murphey discovered the transactions by searching Oklahoma's Open Books website. It appears that the payments began with the start of the FY2011 budget in July of 2010. A quick search of the state spending site shows no previous transactions with any Planned Parenthood vendor.

The money was paid by the State Department of Health. At this time, it is not sure what exactly those payments were used or intended for, but since this has come to light, you can be sure that it will soon be known.

  1. So what. People think there is something nefarious going on. I will bet anyone it was not for abortion services. Most uneducated partisans do not realize the breadth of work that the organization does. It would be like saying don't give any money to the church because some of the the leaders are pedophiles.

  2. I went to the Oklahoma State Department of Health about 10 years ago to read some of the contracts. In one instance, the Health Department paid Planned Parenthood $26,841, in part "to increase correct and consistent use of male condoms and insertion condoms during receptive vaginal and anal intercourse among youth (ages 13-19) and their sexual partners within the Tulsa, Oklahoma MSA." Let's hope that's not what some of these current expenditures are for. But in any case, there is no reason for state legislators to put up with this any longer. Planned Parenthood should get zero. One hopes a GOP legislature and governor can see to that -- especially now that Planned Parenthood's evil is in the national spotlight for all to see.

  3. Despite the talking points of Soros and his allies on the organized Left (http://bit.ly/hZ2TLZ), money is fungible. Planned Parenthood should get zero from the taxpayers of the most pro-life state in the country.

  5. Why is Brandon against helping pregnant women and children? Brandon gets it wrong. Money in this case is not fungible. He first does not understand that this money does not come from the state but through the state from federal funding. And so his statement they should get zero from the state is still true - they got zero from the state. It is nice comments are allowed for discussion - on his own site he does not like any comments - I can understand why.

I called and found out what it is for: It is federal dollars passed through the state for pediatric and prenatal care.

"It is exactly the amount that we received for our WIC, Women,
Infants, Children Nutrition Program. It is a federal funding source
funneled through the Oklahoma State Health Department for food vouchers, nutrition planning and education for the clients in our full pediatric program and prenatal care program. It is really important in achieving healthy outcomes for our prenatal care clients who need the nutrition and food vouchers. It is critical for the infants and their siblings in our pediatric program. "

  6. Not sure what David is talking about -- I have comments on both of my blogs, and would certainly invite him to submit one. And OF COURSE money is fungible. Sure, Planned Parenthood can use government money to fund programs like WIC. But the government money still amounts to a taxpayer subsidy for Planned Parenthood's extermination of babies. Government money given for food vouchers, etc. allows PP to devote other money to baby-killing, lobbying, fundraising, etc. (One Tulsa PP staffer even told a prospective donor that a donation could be targeted to the killing of a black baby.)

Moreover, the federal money builds PP's infrastructure and goodwill, which only helps them in all their other efforts. Some of which are so reprehensible (I read the contract myself at the Oklahoma State Dept. of Health) that they aren't appropriate to mention on a family-friendly blog such as this. If David thinks that because he "called and found out" he has somehow plumbed the depths of what's going here, he is extremely naive regarding the nature of bureaucracies and also regarding the inherent evil of Planned Parenthood.

  7. Have you always allowed comments on your blogs Brandon? Your first comment seems to assume the money was directly from the state of Oklahoma, a point you missed or purposely obfuscated. Money is not fungible if the programs would not occur without it. It twists you into knots because PP does many good things for women and children, and one that you don't like. Read "Red Families v. Blue Families" You may find out why Oklahoma ranks so low in so many categories that you help perpetuate. You are the ultimate hypocrite - you decry govt then actively stay silent on 200 million dollars flowing out of taxpayers pockets towards helping the rich NBA owners - probably because you selfishly want everyone to help subsidize your love for the game. You want all the benefits of living in a society without helping pay the bill. There is place where the govt. has gotten out of the way - it is called Somolia - Why don't you go check it out and see what you think.
