Engle: A Cornett However...

A Cornett However...
By Richard Engle

I was at an event and got stuck talking to a musician. I am not musically inclined, so to make conversation, I asked him about the difference between a trumpet and a cornet. Knowing me he responded, “A Trump-ette is likely to be conservative, a Cornett however...”

I live in Oklahoma City and have during the entire tenure of Mick Cornett as Mayor. We have had occasion to visit before and during his terms in office. He is a nice guy. He is intelligent and he has strong communication skills. He is not a conservative by any definition.

Some will say he was a good manager of our city. Well, we have a city manager to do that. They can point to the recent MAPS projects, but should note that they are built with funds from a tax increase he supported, but the city is now faced with the costs of operation of those projects and little to nothing was done to prepare for those costs. In the waning days of his final term another tax increase was passed at his urging and those funds may well be used to plug the gap in his planning.

The most important project in the recent MAPS plan is the convention center. Any observant citizen of the city will know that it has been mired in problems and delays. He cannot be credited with a success in this matter.

His campaign seems to be taking credit for the Thunder. Nearly all of us are pleased to have a big league team, and more that they are finding success. As the team is a private business, and an expensive one, the credit should first go to the investors who bought a team in Seattle and then moved them to Oklahoma. Second, if a public entity is to be credited, the state legislature made a significant “investment” in the team. Finally, the person most directly involved in the city government’s role in getting the team here is former State Senator David Holt who has now succeeded Cornett at City Hall. Holt even wrote a popular book entitled, Big League City.

There may be little opportunity for a mayor to establish conservative credentials, but there are opportunities for the opposite. As Mayor, Mick Cornett wrote a letter to Congress to discourage any repeal of the “Affordable Care Act” also known as Obamacare. In his letter he says, “The effects of repealing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) will be most heavily felt at the local level, so it is our responsibility to protect the citizens of our cities and metro areas. The new GOP plan is bad for cities, bad for people who live in cities and bad for people who provide healthcare in cities.” He continued by stating that “healthcare is not a privilege; it is a human right.”

It should be noted that this was not a simple note to a single member of Congress. This was a formal and public letter from the U.S. Conference of Mayors and Cornett was the primary signatory and the head of the organization.

Does it need to be stated that conservatives do not favor Obamacare?

What of other issues of import to conservatives? Cornett has no record nor known stated opinions or policies that could be considered pro-life, pro-2nd Amendment, or favoring smaller government. Regarding the final matter, he is quite proud of his expansion of government in Oklahoma City. His tenure as Mayor, the longest in city history, did not include a single significant improvement in efficiency or cost reduction in city services.

The other GOP candidates have variant levels of conservative credentials. Mick Cornett not only lacks the same, he has abundant evidence of the opposite.

No one who votes for Mick Cornett will have any cause to consider themselves to be a conservative, and if the OKGOP nominates him it abolishes the moniker “conservative” from its description.

Tulsa Beacon: Stopping abortion is not ‘silly’; Yen needs to be replaced

Stopping abortion is not ‘silly’

State Sen. Ervin Yen, R-Oklahoma City, thinks a law protecting unborn babies is “silly” and not worth consideration by the Oklahoma Legislature.

Yen, who says he is “pro-life” but he really isn’t, wouldn’t matter much except that he is chairman of the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services. As chairman, he is in a powerful position to kill pro-life legislation.

Yen just killed House Bill 1549, the “Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act of 2017,” which would ban abortion for unborn babies diagnosed with Down syndrome or other genetic disorders.

The bill passed the House by a 67-16 vote but Yen won’t send it to a floor vote in the Senate.

For 100 years, liberal Democrat senators blocked similar legislation. Now Yen, who is a registered Republican, is a puppet of pro-abortion Republicans, chamber of commerce minions and liberal Democrats.

Yen says he is a Catholic, yet he is ignoring his own church by facilitating the death of unborn children. And Yen is essentially denouncing the oath he took as a doctor to “do no harm.”

It is tragic when any child is born with a handicap but many families with a child with Down syndrome will tell you that those children are a unique blessing. They certainly don’t deserve to be destroyed before they are born.

Abortion an unborn baby with Down syndrome is one step away from legalizing infanticide. It is devaluation of human life.

Abortion is the American Holocaust, with almost 60 million unborn babies killed in their mother’s wombs.

It’s time for Republican leaders to stand up and be counted and refute those in the GOP who claim to defend the unborn and yet cater to the pro-abortion crowd.

Yen is completely out of touch with Oklahoma’s values and needs to be replaced.

OKGOP Launches "Jari Ain't Mary" Website

From Oklahoma Republican Party chairman Matt Pinnell...

OKGOP Launches Jari Ain't Mary Website

Oklahoma Democrat candidates are trying to find a way to win in the reddest state in the country. Their solution has been to hide their true liberal views until after the election. It worked for Governor Henry, and now Jari Askins is trying the same strategy.

Hiding your record to deceive Oklahoma voters into believing you are a conservative is wrong, and it’s much more dangerous than the loud and proud liberals on the Coasts.

I’ve made it crystal clear that the Oklahoma Republican Party will not allow Democrat candidates to get away with calling themselves conservative. They will have to defend those claims at every turn.

To help in this fight, we’ve launched “JariAintMary.com”.

You won’t find any disparaging photos, no Obama pics, just the plain facts that when it comes to being a proven conservative leader….Jari ain’t Mary!

Please share the site with your friends and family and utilize the “Print Your Jari Ain’t Mary flyer” feature. Take copies to your club meetings, fair booths, etc.

We have a chance on November 2nd to take our state and country back. We can’t do it without you. So please, volunteer, contribute, and get off the sidelines and on to the playing field!

Let’s win in 2010!

Sincerely,

Chairman Matt Pinnell

Inhofe: McCain's a Liberal, Gets Elected Because of Earmark Opposition

U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK) spoke at a Tulsa Metro Chamber breakfast this morning, and labeled U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) as a closet liberal who gets elected merely because he opposes earmarks. No word if he said the same thing about U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK), who is even more rabidly anti-earmark/pork-spending than McCain.

Ironically, both Inhofe and and McCain's opponent - former Congressman J.D. Hayworth - are both well known for being earmark defenders.

Don't come between a Senator or Congressman and his earmarks...

MoveOn.org Seeks to Hold Coburn Protests

In an email sent this afternoon, MoveOn.org announced plans to stage "Whose Side Are You On?" rallies in front of Sen. Tom Coburn's Oklahoma offices. The email asked MoveOn members to host the rallies, to be held on October 14th. Coburn has been specifically targeted due to his outspokeness against nationalized/socialized health care.

The email stated that "The public option has strong momentum
[ed. note: only in their minds...]. Four of five congressional committees have included a public option in their legislation, and a strong bloc of progressives in Congress says they will only support a bill with a public option."

It also said that "we've still got an uphill fight to win this one in the Senate—Big Insurance is spending millions to defeat real [ha!] reform, and conservative Democrats and Republicans are scuttling reform at every turn [you betcha!]."

Conservative activists are looking at ways to counter-act MoveOn.org's protests. MoveOn was not successful in disrupting Coburn's recent town hall meetings, and when they held a sign-waving event in Tulsa were greatly outnumbered by conservative activist and tea partiers.

Anne Frank, Iran, and Psychopathic Murderers

"Just imagine how forgetful I'll be when I'm eighty!"
(Anne Frank, May 11, 1944)

Today would have been Anne Frank's 80th birthday, had she survived WWII. After living in hiding in the top floors of a warehouse in Amsterdam with her family and four other Jews for over two years (July 6th, 1942, to August 4th, 1944), they were betrayed by an unknown character. Anne died in March of 1945 from Typhus in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in Nazi Germany, a few weeks before the camp was liberated by British troops.

Anne kept a diary throughout their time in hiding, and her father (the only one to survive the war and concentration camps) later published it. It has since been translated into many languages, and is considered to be one of the most important written works of the 20th Century.

I've been reading it the past few days, unaware of the significance of today's date in relation to Anne Frank. It's a very fascinating read, but somewhat of a downer. You find yourself hoping that they all make it through at the end, but the while, you know how it ends. Still, it is very interesting to see the view of World War II from Jews in hiding, and the day-to-day life in the "Secret Annex" where the Franks, Van Pels and Fritz Pfeffer lived.

"Never Again!" was the cry after World War II. And yet, today we can see the rise of another Hitler wannabe: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The last major leader to publicly declare his intent to wipe the Jewish people off the face of the earth was not taken seriously until it was too late, and millions of innocent people were murdered. The world leaders do not take this man seriously, either (see previous posts on the subject). If Ahmadinejad gets a nuclear weapon, he will use it.

This past week, an elderly man shot and killed a guard (by the name of Stephen Johns) at the U.S. Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. The man, who does not deserve to have his name mentioned, was a rabid anti-Semite, anti-government radical, and ran a website dedicated to various neo-Nazi, anti-Semitic conspiracies and views. He was shot by one of the other guards at the museum, and is currently in critical condition.

Like Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, this Hitler lover is also a Holocaust denier (his views on the human race coincide with many of the Nazi elite and Darwinist views as well).

Many on the left and in the media constantly refer to this man as 'right-wing'; I disagree. There is a point that one can reach which is neither left-wing or right-wing, but enters the realm of crazy-land.

However, no one of the left or the media sees it that way. To alter one of Anne Frank's quotes, "What one liberal does is his own responsibility, but what one conservative does is thrown back at all conservatives."

Anne Frank, her family, and millions of Jews suffered and died at the hands of maniacal psychopaths. May we not be the generation to allow it to happen again.
