Assoc. of OK Gen'l Contractors comments on Stitt's proposal to merge ODOT, Turnpike Authority

The Association of Oklahoma General Contractors released the following statement Monday on the Governor's proposed consolidation of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation and the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority.

STATEMENT BY THE ASSOCIATION OF OKLAHOMA GENERAL CONTRACTORS

"The Association of Oklahoma General Contractors (AOGC) is encouraged that the Governor wants to find ways to consolidate and streamline state government - especially when the focus is on improving transportation in Oklahoma. Although the bond markets may have a serious issue with a true "merger" between the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority, we believe there are a tremendous amount of efficiencies that can be found by sharing services.

We would encourage the Governor to develop a working group of legislators, department leaders, engineers and contractors. The committee should look at ways to combine services, eliminate waste, incorporate technology, and possibly even consider moving towards a congressional division of districts by consolidating the current eight ODOT field divisions into five.

I commend the Governor's fresh new approach to making sure our state government is "right-sized." On behalf of all of Oklahoma's road and bridge builders, I look forward to working with him to make this a Top 10 State."  - AOGC Executive Director Bobby Stem

380 Association of Oklahoma General Contractors Across Oklahoma Endorse Stephanie Bice for Congress

OKLAHOMA CITY (July 11, 2019) - The Bice for Congress campaign today announced that 380 members of The Association of Oklahoma General Contractors have endorsed Stephanie Bice to become the next representative of Oklahoma’s Congressional District 5.

“I am thrilled to have the hardworking men and women of the AOGC endorse my campaign for Congressional District 5,” Bice said. “Construction employment in Oklahoma is at an all-time high, growing at more than 5% per year. It’s a clear sign that our state’s economy is strong and investment continues.”

Tim Duit, President of TTK Construction, headquartered in CD 5, said: "During some tough budget years Senator Bice helped make sure we stayed on track in fixing our state's roads and bridges. This is why I am proud to support her candidacy for Congress."

Jeff Allen, CEO Allen Contracting, headquartered in CD 5, said: "Senator Bice is one of the only leaders to actually come out and tour our job sites. I found her willingness to learn and help refreshing. I am happy to support her bid to represent us in the 5th District."

According to Bice, “The work of AOGC members to improve and preserve Oklahoma’s infrastructure continues to drive economic growth in our state.”

Oklahoma's 5th Congressional District is located in the central area of the state and includes a portion of Oklahoma County, Pottawatomie and Seminole counties.

Stephanie Bice is a fourth-generation Oklahoman and was elected to the State Senate representing District 22, which includes Yukon, Piedmont and parts of Northwest Oklahoma City and Edmond. She serves as the Assistant Majority Floor Leader and Chair of the Senate Finance Committee. Bice has earned a reputation as one of Oklahoma’s most effective conservative leaders.
