Antlers, OK (August 21st) – Mike Brittingham, a lifelong resident of Pushmataha County and dedicated public servant, has announced his candidacy for Oklahoma State Legislature, District 19. With a proven track record in business, community leadership, and county government, Brittingham is well-positioned to bring his conservative values and collaborative approach to the state level.
Born in Hugo and raised in Moyers, Brittingham’s roots run deep in Pushmataha County. A 1980 graduate of Antlers High School, he learned the value of hard work stocking shelves at his family’s grocery store and working construction with his father. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to build Brittingham Grocery in 1989 while working as a UPS package car driver. He later expanded the business, adding a laundromat and 45 storage units, showcasing his commitment to economic growth.
In 2010, Brittingham was elected Pushmataha County Commissioner for District 1, selling his businesses to focus on public service. Re-elected in 2014 with 73% of the vote and twice more unopposed, he served as Chairman of the Board for 12 of his 15 years. His leadership secured millions in funding for roads, bridges, and infrastructure through partnerships with local, tribal, and federal agencies, including a collaboration with the Choctaw Nation to enhance jail security and a new Service Oklahoma (DMV) office, now a statewide model for economic development.
“Pushmataha County in SE Oklahoma has been my home my entire life, and I’ve been honored to dedicate my service to improving our quality of life,” said Brittingham. “I’m announcing my candidacy to serve you as your State Representative to bring our conservative values, proven leadership, and a commitment to results for communities to the Oklahoma Legislature. Together, we can build a stronger future for District 19.”
Brittingham’s extensive expertise is built on experience gained across 15 years of work on the KEDDO Board, where he secured grants for fire departments and rural infrastructure; 10 years on the Circuit Engineering District Board, overseeing critical road projects; 14 years on the OPH&W Health Insurance Board, ensuring affordable coverage for county employees; and 14 years as Chair of the County Health Department Board, modernizing emergency services. He also served 6 years on the Little Dixie/LIFT Board, supporting transit and senior services.
In 2016, Brittingham’s bravery earned a Commendation from the Governor of Oklahoma for rescuing a woman from floodwaters, reflecting his selflessness and dedication to others.
