How I think the Senate and CD2 races currently stand

We're now less than two weeks from the 2022 primary election, so I thought I'd write my take on the two most competitive and crowded races attracting attention in the state.

In a radio interview on the Hugh Hewitt Show yesterday, U.S. Senate special election candidate Alex Gray dropped a political bombshell when he pledged to author legislation to "disestablish the five historic Indian reservations that the U.S. Supreme Court in McGirt kind of created out of whole cloth [... to] start the process of fixing the mess that McGirt put us in."

T.W. Shannon comments on leaked Roe v. Wade opinion, calls for end to Left’s genocide of Black babies

More response to the leak of a draft majority opinion overturning Roe v. Wade, here from U.S. Senate candidate T.W. Shannon (running in the special election to replace Jim Inhofe):

Oklahoma Senate Candidate T.W. Shannon Comments on Leaked Roe v. Wade Opinion, Calls for an End to the Left’s Genocide of Black Babies

(May 3rd) "If the United States Supreme Court is ready to overturn the most murderous opinion in our nation's history, then every Oklahoman and American who values life should be thanking President Trump for appointing the Justices who made the ruling possible.

"As Justice Alito noted in the leaked draft, some supporters of abortion 'have been motivated by a desire to suppress the size of the African American population.' He went on to write, 'It is beyond dispute that Roe has had that demographic effect. A highly disproportionate percentage of aborted fetuses are black.'

TW Shannon signs Term Limits pledge

For years, Oklahoma's two U.S. Senators took diametrically opposed stances on term limits. Tom Coburn was the poster child for principled support of congressional term limits, going further than mere lip service and self-imposing them on himself. Jim Inhofe, however, much like with his vehement support of earmarks, disdained the idea of term limits.

Markwayne Mullin infamously broke his own term limits pledge, and continues to stumble and bumble as he tries to explain away why he did so (see Mullin: my term limits pledge didn't matter because "my life experience changed"). One can only assume that Luke Holland, Inhofe's hand-picked successor, has similar views on term limits (and earmarks) to his boss.

T.W. Shannon joins fellow Senate hopefuls Alex Gray and Nathan Dahm in signing the U.S. Term Limits Pledge, vowing to co-sponsor and vote for a term limits constitutional amendment.

Should be an interesting showdown in the Senate primary.

T.W. Shannon announces campaign for United States Senate

T.W. Shannon Announces Campaign for United States Senate
Former Speaker of the House and conservative leader says America is the the home of systemic  opportunity, not systemic racism

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma — Today, T.W. Shannon announced his entrance into the open United  States Senate race to succeed Senator Jim Inhofe.

The former Speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives, business leader, successful CEO,  and Chair of Black Voices for Trump spoke to a packed room of friends and supporters in Oklahoma  City.

“The Left says that if you look like me and are born in America, then capitalism doesn’t work for you.  My story is a living example that you can be born just a few blocks from here at Old Presbyterian  hospital, raised in Lawton, by two amazing parents, obtain a doctoral degree, get elected to office,  advise a president, become a successful CEO all by the age of 40, and yes run for the United States  Senate,” said Shannon. “The only reason any of this is possible is because America has been all in  for me, and to whom much is given, much is required.”

TW Shannon schedules Senate campaign announcement this afternoon

Former Oklahoma House Speaker T.W. Shannon is scheduled to "announce his candidacy in the Special Election for U.S. Senate" at 1pm today at the First Americans Museum in Oklahoma City, according to a media release issued by his campaign.

T.W. Shannon seems to be considering another Senate bid following Inhofe's retirement

The latest potential candidate to be publicly considered his options in the wake of U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe's retirement, here is a statement from former State House Speaker T.W. Shannon:

Jim Inhofe’s expected retirement announcement today after an almost 40 year career in DC mark’s an end of an era in Oklahoma politics. I am grateful for his support of the American military, his fight against radical environmental extremism and for those times when he did stand for the America First Agenda.

As we look to the next generation of leadership, like most Oklahomans, my family and I recognize that Washington politicians have failed America. They’ve failed on debt and spending, failed to contain China and Russia, failed to secure our border, failed on election integrity and they have failed on the other great pandemic that’s infected our culture: wokeism.

If Donald Trump taught us anything, it’s that if we are going to Make America Great Again and implement the America First Agenda, we must first acknowledge that the swamp is never going to reform the swamp.

In order to win this fight against Joe Biden and the ruling political class’ globalist BLM agenda, it’s going to require a bold, articulate, decisive leader who can speak truth to power, and not bend to the pressure of the Woke mob- even against the leadership of your own party.

This country and this state have been far too good to me to sit back and become the generation who allows our republic to retreat from its proper role in history. Despite Washington’s best effort, America still stands as Ronald Reagan so aptly described, a “shining city upon a hill.”

Putting people in office to join the good ole boys’ club who will just manage the decay is no longer good enough for a small state with big dreams. I’ve never shied away from a fight just because I’m the underdog, especially a fight that impacts the future of my children—your children—our children are worth the fight.

In such a time as this my family and I are seeking God’s guidance on how our gifts and talents can best be of service to the people of Oklahoma in the fight to defend the 3 C’s that made this country great in the first place: the Constitution, Capitalism, and Christianity for religious liberty.

Please keep us in your prayers.

Report: U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe to announce retirement on Monday

Sen. Inhofe at a recent Senate hearing.

It is being widely reported this evening that U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe is planning on announcing his retirement from the Senate on Monday (Politico, New York Times).

Inhofe (elected to the U.S. House in 1986 and then the U.S. Senate in 1994) turned 87 in November, and his wife Kay has, evidently, been in poor health in recent years.

Back in December 2019, my Muskogee Politico Insiders Panel discussed the then-uncertainty over Inhofe's 2020 reelection plans. I asked the panelists who they thought would jump into the Senate race should Inhofe retire, and here are some of the names they tossed out back in 2019:
