Lankford calls on Biden admin to reverse “Don’t Say Dad” rule

Lankford Calls on Biden Admin to Reverse “Don’t Say Dad” Rule

WASHINGTON, DC – Senators James Lankford (R-OK), Marco Rubio (R-FL), and their colleagues sent a letter to address the US Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) recently proposed rule that would eliminate “gender-specific” words like “paternity,” “mother,” and “father” from federal regulations guiding the Child Support Enforcement (CSE) program. The letter urges President Joe Biden to rescind this “Don’t Say Dad” rule and to stop attempting to erase biological sex from federal law.

Congressman Brecheen introduces two bills to protect taxpayers, ag producers

I'm a bit behind on posting these, but Oklahoma's 2nd District Congressman Josh Brecheen recently filed two pieces of legislation, the Stop Government Overreach in Ranching Act and the Healthy SNAP Act.

The Stop Government Overreach in Ranching Act would reverse FDA guidance, “GFI 263,” which restricts the use of commonly used livestock antibiotics, such as penicillin. This has put added expense and hardship upon the those involved in agriculture and livestock. The Healthy SNAP Act would exclude soft drinks, candy, ice cream, and prepared desserts from being purchased with SNAP benefits (informally known as food stamps).

Read below for more details on both:

Lankford Continues Work to Make Daylight Saving Time Permanent

WASHINGTON, DC (March 2nd) - Ahead of Daylight Saving Time, Senators James Lankford (R-OK) and Marco Rubio (R-FL) reintroduced the Sunshine Protection Act of 2023 for the 118th Congress. The legislation would end the antiquated practice of changing clocks twice a year.

Lankford, colleagues call on Fed Dep't of Ed to drop proposed rule change attacking Charter Schools

Press release from U.S. Sen. James Lankford:

Lankford, Colleagues Work to Save School Choice After Bureaucrats Threaten to Gut It

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK –Senators James Lankford (R-OK), Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), Tim Scott (R-SC), and 10 colleagues urged the Department of Education to reconsider the proposed rule redefining the Charter Schools Program, stripping parents of their ability to choose the best school for their child.

U.S. Senate passes bill to make Daylight Saving Time permanent

As my wife said when I told her about this, "You mean I just lost an hour that I might never get back?"

Senate Unanimously Passes Lankford’s Bill to Make Daylight Saving Time Permanent

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator James Lankford (R-OK) offered the following statement after the Senate passed the Sunshine Protection Act, which Lankford introduced last year with Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL), Roy Blunt (R-MO), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Ron Wyden (D-OR), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), Rick Scott (R-FL), Bill Hagerty (R-TN), and Ed Markey (D-MA).

“This is one issue that I have been chipping away at for a few years, and an issue I have consistently heard from Oklahomans—they are ready to lock the clock. Today Oklahomans, parents, dog owners, and lovers of daylight are one step closer to not having to deal with springing forward or falling back,” said Lankford. “Congress created Daylight Saving decades ago as a wartime effort, now it is well past time to lock the clock and end this experiment. I call on the House of Representatives to pass this bill immediately.”

Lankford wants answers on Biden’s plan for database of federal employees’ religious beliefs

Lankford, Colleagues Want Answers on Biden’s Plan for a Database of Federal Employees’ Religious Beliefs

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator James Lankford (R-OK) today joined Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) and 40 of their colleagues in a letter to the Comptroller General of the United States after the District of Columbia’s Pretrial Services Agency (PSA) published a notice of its intent to create a database known as the “Employee Religious Exception Request Information System.” The Members ask GAO to tell them whether the notice constitutes a rule for purposes of the Congressional Review Act, which Congress can invoke to overturn an agency’s action.

The records system is a central database, maintained by the Office of Management and Budget, that tracks the names, religious affiliation, religious beliefs, personally identifying information and other data of federal employees who have requested religious exemptions to the Biden Administration’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate on federal employees. More than 20 federal agencies, including the Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security and Department of Transportation, have issued similar notices to maintain databases tracking employees’ religious beliefs, and these lists will be shared between federal agencies.

Lankford, Rubio call for 2022 Winter Olympics to be moved out of China over human rights abuses

Lankford, Rubio Call on Olympic Committee to Relocate 2022 Winter Games

WASHINGTON, DC – Senators James Lankford (R-OK) and Marco Rubio (R-FL) introduced a resolution calling on the International Olympic Committee to relocate the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games in response to China’s refusal to acknowledge and stop their egregious human rights abuses. These abuses include genocide, forced labor, and crimes against humanity as a direct attempt to forcibly “assimilate,” or eventually eliminate, vulnerable ethnic and religious groups such as the Uyghurs in the Xinjiang region of northwest China.

“When our athletes are being instructed to leave their cellphones in the United States before heading to China, and we still do not know the wellbeing of tennis star Peng Shaui, we have a responsibility to question why the Olympic Committee is allowing China to host the 2022 Winter Olympic games,” said Lankford. “What’s more embarrassing is that we’re allowing the Chinese Communist Party to profit off of the games when it is responsible for genocide and crimes against humanity. Our athletes have trained, worked, and dedicated their lives to representing our nation. American Olympic athletes should not be punished or put in harm’s way while competing in this historic event. I’m calling on the Olympic Committee to relocate the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games to another host country.”

Lankford, Rubio file bill to stop funding states and cities that allow non-citizens to vote

Lankford, Rubio Want to Prohibit Non-Citizens From Voting

WASHINGTON, DC — Senator James Lankford, along with Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), introduced the Protecting Our Democracy by Preventing Foreign Citizens from Voting Act to prohibit federal funding to states and localities that allow non-citizens to vote. Senators Steve Daines (R-MT), Thom Tillis (R-NC), John Kennedy (R-LA), and Rick Scott (R-FL) joined Lankford and Rubio in introducing the legislation. Representative Jeff Duncan (R-SC) will introduce companion legislation in the US House of Representatives.

“Democrats are not fooling anyone with their election schemes; the latest is to allow non-citizens to vote in New York City elections. This is ridiculous—only American citizens should vote in American elections,” Lankford said. “A government by the people for the people should be determined by its people. The Fifteenth Amendment guarantees the right of every citizen to vote. Federal law and federal funding should uphold and honor the Constitution. Our nation’s elections at every level should be fair, secure, and decided by American citizens.”

“It’s ridiculous that states are allowing foreign citizens to vote,” Rubio said. “However, if states and localities do let those who are not US citizens to vote in elections, they shouldn’t get US citizen taxpayer money.”

Lankford joins Lee, Hawley, Rubio, and others in introducing "Don't Draft Our Daughters" resolution

It should be pointed out that Sen. Jim Inhofe, who never met military pork (or really, any pork) that he didn't like, has praised the NDAA bill that includes registering women for the draft. He has given the limp-wristed explanation that he voted against the draft inclusion during committee markup, but voted for the overall bill anyway.

There are sadly very few Republicans on Capitol Hill who seem willing to stand up against this issue. Below is a press release from Sen. James Lankford, joining a select few who are likeminded:

Lankford, Colleagues Do Not Want Women to Have to Register for the Draft

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator James Lankford (R-OK) joined Senators Mike Lee (R-UT), Steve Daines (R-MT), Roger Wicker (R-MS), Josh Hawley (R-MO), and Marco Rubio (R-FL) to introduce a resolution expressing that the Senate should not pass legislation mandating the registration of women for the Selective Service System.

“Our all-volunteer military is the finest fighting force the world has ever known,” said Lankford. “Women have shown they are more than capable of fully serving in our Armed Forces, and I commend our brave daughters, sisters, and mothers who serve our nation. There is no reason to add women to the outdated Selective Service System to prepare for a draft. When we have faced national security threats over the past four decades, men and women who love our country have volunteered in massive numbers to protect our nation with great distinction. Women are eligible to serve in any role in our military that they choose, but they should not be compelled to sign up for selective service.”

“Forcing our daughters into the draft creates a burdensome and disproportionately increased risk of injury and fatalities for our nation’s women, as readiness data shows,” said Lee. “This policy change is rushed and unnecessary in our current time of peace, and unduly harms women more than advancing any notion of equality. While American women should be empowered to serve in our Armed Forces, they should not be forced to fight.”

Ted Cruz - 475

Inhofe endorses..... John Kasich

Because nothing says "he can stop Trump" like winning just ONE out of the thirty-one primaries and caucuses so far, Jim Inhofe is now supporting John Kasich, who mathematically needs about 110% of all remaining delegates in order to win. Inhofe had previously supported Marco Rubio.

Here's the press release from the Kasich campaign:

Today U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK) announced his support for Gov. John Kasich’s presidential campaign.

Said Inhofe, “Out of the three still in the race for president, John is my guy. I served with John in Congress when he successfully spearheaded the effort to balance the federal budget and, as a member of the Armed Services Committee, helped President Reagan enact his national security agenda. During this time, I also attended a weekly Bible study with him for eight years. You learn a lot about a person when you attend a Bible study together, so I can tell you personally that he is a man of his word. When he talked, people listened. Now the country is listening to his message of optimism and results. That’s refreshing. I’m proud to stand by his side as we spread this message to voters in the weeks ahead.”

Inhofe is an Army veteran and avid pilot who serves as Chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee and Senior Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. Several publications, including National Journalmagazine and Human Events, have ranked Inhofe among the Senate’s most outstanding conservative members. Prior to his election to the Senate in 1994, Inhofe represented Oklahoma’s 1st Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“It is an incredible honor to receive the support of my friend and former colleague, Senator Jim Inhofe,” said Kasich. “Jim is a role model to several generations of conservatives, and I trust his expertise and judgment implicitly. He knows Oklahoma voters better than just about anyone, so it’s a major win to have him in our corner going forward.”

Another note: does the Kasich campaign know that Oklahoma already voted, and that he received only 3.59%? Read the last sentence of the press release again, and tell me how Inhofe knowing "Oklahoma voters better than just about anyone" is a "major win... going forward".

It's time for a Cuban Compact

This Republican presidential primary has turned out to be rather depressing. Starting the season off, we had the youngest, most diverse, most talented set of candidates ever going up against a weak, homogenous Democratic field of old, white northeastern liberals. The contrast was going to be tremendous. Yesterday versus Tomorrow, New versus Old. This was going to be our year.

Along came Donald Trump.

Where things stand now, the frontrunners for both the Democratic and Republican parties are old, rich white liberals from New York. Not a lot of variety.

I've posted quite a bit about why Donald Trump is a terrible choice. He would be a disaster as the Republican nominee, and I cannot in good conscience vote for him to be our next President. Trump must be stopped, and the best way to do that is to defeat him in the primary. Only one candidate left can do that -- Ted Cruz.

Marco Rubio is a talented young conservative, who had a bright future and huge potential. He would have made a great president, far more conservative than anyone since Ronald Reagan, and perhaps even more so than Ronaldus Magnus himself.

However, Rubio's chance has come -- and gone. His campaign is practically finished. He has no path to victory. There is only one thing he can do now to stop Donald Trump.

It's time for a Cuban Compact.

In the 24 primaries or caucuses thus far, Marco Rubio has finished ahead of Donald Trump 2 times. Ted Cruz has beaten Trump 8 times. Rubio has finished second to Trump in 2 states, and Cruz has finished second to Trump in 8 states.

Rubio's polling has plummeted in recent days. In most Florida polls, he's barely ahead of Cruz (just outside of the margin of error). In Ohio, he's in fourth, in single digits. In other states, the best he can get is a [distant] tie for second place.

The election results are proving Ted Cruz's case for him -- he's the only one who is giving Trump a run for the money. Rubio's 3-2-1 strategy "wait for Florida" strategy (also called the 3-4-2-2-3-3-3-2-3-3-1-3-3-3-3-2-4-3-3-3-1-3-3-4-4-1 strategy) has failed, much like Rudy Giuiliani's Florida strategy of 2008. The only thing Rubio accomplishes by staying in the race is guaranteeing a Donald Trump nomination.

Erick Erickson and others have been calling for Rubio to drop out and join Ted Cruz for a unity ticket. This does several things: saves face for Rubio by avoiding an embarrassing loss in Florida, unifies the party, gives a tremendous contrast to Hillary Clinton, and saves Rubio's future political ambitions (let's face it -- a loss in Florida would be damaging to any future run for Rubio). I agree with them.

A Cruz/Rubio presidential ticket would be the best thing conservatives have ever had on the national level. It's time for the two Cubans to get together and make it happen while there's still time.

Oklahoma results: Trump dominated early, but Cruz surged on election day

Looking at the returns for Oklahoma's Republican presidential primary, you can see that winner Ted Cruz made a big surge with election-day voting.

Absentee voting made up 2.39% of total votes cast, and Donald Trump had a 6.06% lead over Cruz. Early voting was 4.08% of votes cast, and Trump still had a 5.77% lead over Cruz. However, Cruz beat Trump by 6.87% on election day, where 93.52% of all ballots were cast. On election day, there was a 12.64% swing in Cruz's favor.

Other results:

  • After a slight increase between absentee and early voting, Marco Rubio held steady between early voting and election day.
  • Jeb Bush pulled 3.31% in absentees, but after he dropped out his figures dropped below 0.4%.
  • Ben Carson dipped during early voting, then gained slightly on election day
  • John Kasich lost about 1/3rd of his support on election day from what he got during the absentee/early voting.

Cruz wins Oklahoma amid record turnout; results by Congressional District

Ted Cruz surged back to win Oklahoma's presidential primary last night. Cruz greatly over-performing polling averages, which had Trump leading by 11.4% (at 32.7%), Rubio in second (21.3%) and Cruz in third (20.3%). Instead, Cruz took 34.37%, Trump collapsed to 28.32% and Rubio came in with 26.02%. The public polling was either total junk, or Cruz made a huge last-minute surge -- either or both may be true.

According to the Oklahoma State Election Board, the vote total was a record setter. 795,096 total votes were cast, breaking the Presidential Primary record of 752,261 in 2008. In addition, the GOP total of 459,542 votes beat the previous single-party record the Democrats set in 2008 of 417,207.

Conservative Index for OK Leg endorsers: Cruz 79.2, Trump 67.8, Rubio 66.3

Now that the Rubio and Cruz campaigns have released their final Oklahoma legislative endorsement lists, I can update the Conservative Index averages for their supporters.

As you can see, the Conservative Index scores for the Cruz endorsers is significantly higher than for Rubio or Trump. The average for Cruz is 79.2 (25 endorsers), while Trump trails with 67.8 (4 endorsers) and Rubio brings up the rear with 66.3 (30 endorsers).

Illustrating ideological similarities, all three presidential campaigns attracted nearly identical support in both houses of the legislature; Rubio's House/Senate score difference was only 0.3, Cruz's was 2.6, and Trump's was 3.5.

Coburn endorses Rubio for President

Former Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn Endorses Marco Rubio For President

Today, former Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn endorsed Marco Rubio for president. Former Senator Coburn is joining a strong group of conservative leaders in the state, including Senator Jim Inhofe and former Governor Frank Keating, in endorsing Marco ahead of tomorrow's primary.
Former U.S. Senator Tom Coburn, M.D. (R-OK) issued the following statement today announcing his endorsement of U.S. Senator Marco Rubio:

“Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, ‘Cowardice asks the question - is it safe? Expediency asks the question - is it politic? Vanity asks the question - is it popular? But conscience asks the question - is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular; but one must take it because it is right.’

“At a time when our republic, and the Republican Party, is at a crossroads I have no doubt that the right choice for America is Marco Rubio. America desperately needs a president who will appeal to people’s highest aspirations rather than their deepest fears; a president who will model servant leadership rather than self-promotion; and a president who will cast a vision and unite the country instead of denigrating dissenters as second-class citizens. Marco would be such a president. I urge voters in Oklahoma and across the country to take a stand for freedom and stand with Marco on Tuesday and throughout this campaign.

“Marco is the only candidate in this race who is in the mold of President Reagan. While some are offering a message of victimization and helplessness against Washington, Marco understands that ‘We the People’ are the establishment and the elites in American society.  We need a president who will reawaken our belief in the American idea and not merely complain about how things are but challenge us to dream of what could be.

“In Washington, Marco has been an extremely effective Tea Party senator. No candidate running for president has fought Obamacare more effectively than Marco and no one has a better grasp of foreign affairs and America’s place in the world.

“As a physician, business owner, member of the Class of 1994 and later as a U.S. Senator, I came to understand the depth of the American people’s frustration with the status quo. Voters are right to be upset with the direction of the country. And even though the ranks of conservatives in Washington have grown, the pace of change simply isn’t fast enough.

“The candidacy of Donald Trump, however, threatens to undo and reverse years of work that began with Goldwater and Reagan – work that future movements like the 1994 Republican Revolution and the Tea Party sought to preserve and perfect.

“Donald Trump’s campaign is a fabrication. He is perpetuating a fraud on the American people. His empty promises, bullying and bloviating rhetoric will only deepen the frustration and disillusionment that gave rise to his campaign. He simply lacks the character, skills and policy knowledge to turn his grandiose promises into reality.

“Put simply, Donald Trump has no plan to make America great again. He is a populist without portfolio.”

Rubio adds Oklahoma endorsements, picks up most of Jeb's support

The Rubio Campaign Announces Oklahoma Leaders Supporting Marco

Today, the Marco Rubio for President campaign announced a growing list of Oklahoma leaders supporting Marco. Marco continues to build on his momentum, and conservative leaders across the country are joining him and helping him share his message.

With so many pressing issues facing our nation abroad and at home, we need a true conservative leader who is prepared, can win in November, can unite our country, and lead us into the future."

“I know that all of these leaders will be encouraging our friends, neighbors and constituents to vote for Marco this coming Tuesday, because if they do, we will get a nominee that can beat the Democrats and usher in a new American century,” said Sen. Holt.
