Eddie Huff leaves KFAQ

Eddie Huff, co-host of The Pat Campbell Show on Tulsa's 1170 KFAQ, is leaving the airwaves. After six years on the radio, Huff made the announcement today:
To all of my Tulsa friends and KFAQ fans, I wanted you to hear from me before the rumor mill began running wild. First of all, yes it IS true today was my last day as a regular on the Pat Campbell show.

Back in 2010 when Pat first invited me on and then Brian Gann offered me a noon show, I said, "Lord as long as you want me here I will stay. When you no longer want me here I am ready to go." I have actually been tempted many times over these 6 years to quit, BUT did not get that release. Today that release came.

As the saying goes, "If God closes one door He opens another." For now I will enjoy sleeping in, and focusing on some ministry that I have been working on for some time, as well as my insurance agency.

I do want to thank Pat Campbell and KFAQ for welcoming me and giving me the opportunity to share my thoughts and ideas for the past 6 years. I ask you to continue to support Pat and his show. He is a great and kind man, despite his persona and it has been my extreme pleasure to argue with him over these 6 years. He is a TRUE friend.

I will still be active on Facebook, Twitter and my blog NewBlackThought.blogspot.com.

Blessing and grace to all!
For a brief period, Huff had his own local show on KFAQ, but the majority of his involvement has been as co-host and fill-in for Pat Campbell. Recently, Huff has also filled in for nationally syndicated talker Todd Schnitt (also aired on KFAQ - Campbell has filled in for Schnitt as well).

Coburn talks Jackson, Bartlett, Bridenstine endorsements with Pat Campbell

Tulsa talk radio host Pat Campbell had former senator Tom Coburn on his program this morning to discuss Coburn's endorsements of Jarrin Jackson (2nd District), Dewey Bartlett (Tulsa mayor) and Jim Bridenstine (1st District).

The interview begins with the 2nd District race, and Coburn's reasoning on why he came out against incumbent Markwayne Mullin and supports his challenger, Jarrin Jackson.

Regarding Mullin, Coburn said, "Integrity is the only thing that really counts in politics. and when you tell somebody, you make a commitment to somebody that you're going to do something, and then you start wavering on that commitment, you have no standing with me at all after that." Coburn called Mullin after news broke that he was wavering on his term limits pledge, and Mullin still refused to say he would keep his pledge. In the interview, Coburn goes on to say "[Markwayne Mullin] doesn't have the integrity to keep his word, and to me that's the most important thing."

On Jarrin Jackson, Coburn said "He'll be another Jim Bridenstine if he's elected."

Campbell and Coburn talked about the Tulsa mayoral race. Coburn endorsed Dewey Bartlett in his first race, and supports him for reelection. Coburn appreciates Bartlett's business background and desire to serve Tulsa without making a career in politics. He went on to say "The criticisms I've heard of Dewey are minor in comparison to the risks of having some young guy with really no real world experience except politics - I mean, that's all there is, there's nothing there except politics - being the mayor of Tulsa."

When the conversation moved to the 1st District race, Coburn said "Bridenstine was the easiest endorsement I've ever done in my life. He votes right. Every time. I don't have to worry about how Jim Bridenstine votes, because he's going to look at the Constitution, he's going to look at limited government, he's going to vote that way. Every time, no matter what the rest of the Oklahoma delegation does."

KFAQ's Pat Campbell interviews Don Rumsfeld

Tulsa talk radio host Pat Campbell landed a big interview for his show this morning. 1170 KFAQ's morning host was joined by former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, who was on to talk about his new book (Known and Unknown), as well as the past and present situation in the Middle East.

You can listen to the entire segment here.

Some people hated the man during his tenure as Defense Secretary, but I always liked "Rummy". Especially when he dealt with the media, he brought a special kind of humor. Take this quote from his interview with Pat Campbell:
"Well, you know, I've lived a third of the history of our country (which is a breathtaking thought, that we have such a young country, or that I'm so old)."
That got me to thinking - surely it couldn't be a third!

Yes. Literally a third of America's history. 2011 minus 1776 equals 235 years. Don Rumsfeld was born in 1932, so he'll be 79 in July. 79 plus 78 plus 78 is 235. As crazy as it sounds, Rummy and others his age have seen one third of America's entire history!
.

[On a different topic, but still from Pat Campbell, is a story about 'America's most injured soldier' returning to war. I recommend taking a look at it.]

2nd District Update

The race on the Republican side for the 2nd Congressional District has gone to a runoff, with candidates Charles Thompson and Daniel Edmonds qualifying for the "overtime" round of the primary. Here is a quick roundup up the latest events, in chronological order.

Thompson supporters have been passing around the rumor that if Edmonds does not win the runoff, he will support Dan Boren in November. Edmonds issued the following press release on Monday to combat the rumor.

Edmonds Pledges Support to Conservative Republican Cause
Edmonds: "Our common goal is to replace Dan Boren in Congress."

(Morris, Oklahoma-August 2, 2010):

Daniel Edmonds, candidate in the August 24 runoff election for the Republican nomination in Oklahoma's Second Congressional District, today commented on the runoff election.

"I look forward to the runoff campaign to see who will go on to face Dan Boren in November," Edmonds said. "I will continue to campaign on the issues that are important to the conservative cause."

"Whomever the voters choose to carry the Republican banner in November, I will continue to support the conservative cause," Edmonds continued. "I will work towards one of our common goals, which is replacing Dan Boren as our Congressman."

Edmonds, whose previous political experience includes stints as the Agricultural Policy Intern for the Oklahoma Senate and House of Representatives and the Frank D. Lucas Agricultural Policy Scholar for Congressman Frank Lucas (R-OK 3) in Washington, DC, is running for office for the first time.

Daniel Edmonds, a seventh generation Oklahoman in Okmulgee County, has a BS and MS in Plant and Soil Sciences from Oklahoma State University. Learn more about his campaign at www.danieledmonds.org.

On Tuesday, former candidates Howard Houchen and Dan Arnett endorsed Charles Thompson on KFAQ's Eddie Huff Show. The runoff election is on Tuesday, August 24th, and the victor will go on to challenge Democrat Congressman Dan Boren in the November general election.

Want to hear the Arizona Immigration Law for yourself?

I'm sure you've heard all of the hubbub over the recently passed Arizona immigration law by now, but have you read the bill? How about listening to it, instead.

Tomorrow, Glenn Beck plans on reading the bill in its entirety (17 pages) in the third hour of his radio show.

For Oklahomans, you can catch the Glenn Beck Program on the AM dial on 1320 KCLI (Clinton, 8-11am), 1000 KTOK (OKC, 8-11am), and 1170 KFAQ (Tulsa, 9-noon).

KFAQ Reposts Medlock Archives

1170 KFAQ has re-posted the archive of The Chris Medlock Show's final week.

After KFAQ cut Chris Medlock, they removed all reference to Medlock and his show from their website. This included all the archives.

I see this as a good move on KFAQ's part (but by no means redeeming their actions in this situation). It remains to be seen whether they will return the entire archive of The Chris Medlock Show or not, but this is a good start. Michael Bates at BatesLine posted about his disappointment with KFAQ for removing Medlock's blog and archives, from a historical standpoint. Let's hope that KFAQ continues adding the past podcasts of The Chris Medlock Show.

Chris Medlock Re-Launches Blog

Chris Medlock, former talk show host on 1170 KFAQ, re-launched his blog this week. MedBlogged had been idle since August of 2008.

Medlock blogged extensively on Tulsa politics and issues, much as he dealt with the same topics on his radio show. The Oklahoma blogging community has re-gained a great asset.

Medlock's blog is located at www.MedBlogged.com.

Update on Chris Medlock Show

Here's the latest information on why KFAQ cut The Chris Medlock Show.

It appears to have been because of financial problems with the parent company, Journal Communications. Here's from Michael Bates on Batesline (a superb blogger):
Although I'm told that Chris's ratings have been good -- the best for his timeslot since Tony Snow was on mid-afternoons several years ago -- parent company Journal Communications is suffering. In June 2007, the stock neared $14 a share; it was at $5 as recently as last September; yesterday it closed at 39 cents. (It ticked up today, back to 50 cents.) According to the transcript of the company's 2008 4Q earnings teleconference, Journal had a net loss of $223 million for that period. Journal Communications' flagship is the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel newspaper.
On his Facebook profile, Chris Medlock confirmed that, "They said it was due to financial problems." When one of the commentors asked if there was anything his listening audience could do to get him back on the air, he said, "I guess if enough people complained...it's worked before."

Here's the contact information for 1170 KFAQ, if you wish to contact the station.
