Lucas: Pelosi’s War Powers Resolution puts Politics over National Security

Pelosi’s War Powers Resolution Puts Politics Over National Security

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Frank Lucas (OK-03) released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.Con.Res. 83- War Powers Resolution by a vote of 224-194. Representative Frank Lucas opposed the resolution.
“There’s no question about it, President Trump was justified in killing Qasem Soleimani – Iran’s most deadly terrorist. For decades, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Quds Force has brought bloodshed and terror to the region under the command of Soleimani. Our armed forces and allies are safer thanks to the President’s constitutionally authorized defensive actions.

At a time when Congress should be steadfast and united behind the strength of our national defense, House Democrats are instead more interested in undermining President Trump and playing politics with our national security.

While there will always be differences in policy between the many personalities that serve within the House, it’s apparent the Majority has rushed to push through a resolution that has no binding effect, will not be signed into law, and was drafted to simply highlight the Democrat’s disdain towards the President.”

Background:
On January 2, 2020, the United States military, under the direction of President Donald Trump, took defensive action to protect U.S. personnel by killing Qasem Soleimani, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Quds Force, a U.S. designated Foreign Terrorist Organization. In the weeks prior to the strike, Soleimani was responsible for attacks on U.S. military personnel as well as the terrorist attack on the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. As Commander in Chief, the President of the United States has the Article II Constitutional authority to use force to protect and defend our nation and our forces.

A concurrent resolution cannot have the force of law because it is not presented to the President and subject to veto, as required by Supreme Court constitutional case law since 1983.

Arnett: "Let Afghanistan take care of Afghanistan"

Republican congressional candidate Dan Arnett made the following statement in an article in the Sunday edition of the McAlester News-Capital.
“In Arizona, the government isn’t protecting our border,”  Arnett said.

“That’s an area where the government isn’t doing its job. I would like to see the government step up and do its job.”

Arnett knows how he would like to see that accomplished.

“Get our men and women out of Afghanistan and bring them back to our own borders,” Arnett said. “Let Afghanistan take care of Afghanistan.” [emphasis mine]

Arnett is one of six Republican candidates for the 2nd Congressional District, currently held by Democrat Congressman Dan Boren. The other GOP contenders are Daniel Edmonds, Howard Houchen, Charles Thompson, and last-minute candidates Raymond Wickson, and Chester Falling. State Sen. Jim Wilson is the lone Democrat candidate running against Congressman Boren.

Pictures and Video from CAIR-OK Gaza Protest

The Oklahoma chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations held a rally at the State Capitol building today, protesting Israel's recent invasion of Gaza, known as 'Operation Cast Lead'.

Originally, a press conference was scheduled for 11:30am, but as of noon, nobody showed up to speak. About twenty-five people, mostly members of the media, waited for half anhour outside Room 432B for Razi Hashmi, the director of CAIR-OK, to come.

A "Peace Vigil for Gaza" was planned for noon, at the Capitol Building's south plaza. I would estimate that between 150 and 200 protestors came. Most of the participants were local Muslims, including several imams, along with various anti-war peace activists.

The protestors marched around in circles for nearly an hour, shouting various slogans and chants such as:
  • Free, free Palestine
  • Free, free Gaza
  • Stop the genocide, stop the bombing
  • Sharon and Hitler are the same; the only difference is the name
  • Occupation is a crime
... etcetera.

They held posters of all sizes, with phrases such as "Terror, made in Israel, sponsored by the U.S.", "War is not the answer", "Israel is the terrorist", "End the occupation of Palestine", "Stop the genocide", and "Stop the war".

They also held 'bloodied' baby dolls.

CAIR-OK plans on making this a weekly event.

I have video here and here (more will be uploaded). A few more pictures (click to make larger):
