OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (February 5, 2024) -- Groundwater Professional and resident of Norman since 1983, Robert Keyes, has been elected as Treasurer of the National Groundwater Association (NGWA). The NGWA is the largest groundwater association in the world, with more than 10 thousand members across the United States and in 40 countries.
“Recent studies show humans have pumped so much water from aquifers that it has actually altered the tilt of the Earth’s axis,” Robert Keyes said. “We are over-pumping our groundwater supplies, not refilling the aquifers, and this could lead to a major catastrophe. Most of us take clean water for granted, but the reality is, every community must start taking proactive steps to resupply our aquifers.”
NGWA is a community of groundwater professionals who promote responsible management of the world’s aquifers. The group provides training and education for sustainable use of groundwater worldwide.
“Investing in our groundwater is investing in life itself,” said Keyes. “God calls on us to be good stewards of the planet, and we take that responsibility seriously. By adopting safe, evidence-based practices, we can both provide and protect our water supply for generations to come.”
