Walters touts statewide tutoring program launch, open transfer success in Minco

In Minco, Walters Announces Success of Tutoring Program

Oklahoma City, Okla (Nov. 17th) – State Superintendent Ryan Walters visited Minco schools today to announce the successful launch of the statewide tutoring program and to highlight the highly successful open transfer and academic programs in Minco Public Schools.

“Our tutoring program is off to a tremendous start,” said Walters.  “School districts across our state, including our two largest, will be involved in tutoring. With more than nearly 200 volunteers already signed up, we will be able to reach more than 1000 students. This is the most aggressive approach in the country to launch these initiatives over the holiday break, and I believe every Oklahoma school can be as successful as Minco. We will fight to move them in that direction.”

Parents have responded to the excellent district leadership in Minco.  It is a model district, taking more 80 students through open transfer. The district is 10% points over the state average in reading and math with much lower chronic absenteeism than much of the state.
