Congressman Hern comments after voting against unconstitutional anti-gun legislation

Hern votes against un-Constitutional legislation

WASHINGTON, DC – Representative Kevin Hern (OK-01) released the following statement after voting against HR 2377 and HR 7910.

“My constituents have made their feelings incredibly clear: they are overwhelmingly opposed to any attempt by President Biden and Congressional Democrats to take away our 2nd Amendment rights,” said Rep. Hern. “I fully support my constituents in these beliefs. The legislation before the House today is an attack on the Constitution that violates our 2nd Amendment and due process rights. I voted against these bills because they fail to address the true problem and instead target law-abiding citizens. I will always defend our 2nd Amendment.”

Background Information

HR 2377, the Federal Extreme Risk Protection Act, includes provisions that:

  • Take away the due process rights of law-abiding gun owners,
  • Create a red flag system with no protections against abuse, and
  • Would not reduce crime.

HR 7910, the Protecting our Kids Act, includes provisions that:

  • Do not protect Americans,
  • Fail to address mental health issues, and
  • Infringe on the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens.
