OK COUNTY OFFICIALS ENDORSE CINDY BYRD FOR STATE AUDITOR
Two retiring Oklahoma County officials are encouraging voters to support Cindy Byrd for State Auditor in this month’s GOP primary election. Oklahoma County Commissioner Ray Vaughn and County Assessor Leonard Sullivan both give Byrd high praise for her professional diligence.
“When you focus on being accountable for the public funds you spend, it makes you a better public servant, and we have that in Cindy Byrd,” Commissioner Vaughn says. “I’ve had the pleasure of working with Cindy Byrd and her staff during her entire tenure as County Audit Division Director and Deputy State Auditor. She definitely knows her stuff. We underwent more than one difficult audit with the former Sheriff and, while tough to swallow, she was always fair and her primary goal was to help us do things right.”
Cindy Byrd oversees performance audits of all 77 County governments in Oklahoma. Even though Vaughn and Sullivan are both retiring this year, they hope to see Byrd continue her great work, even after they leave office.
“Cindy Byrd will be the strong, independent voice and tireless watchdog citizens expect from their State Auditor,” says Assessor Leonard Sullivan. “Cindy understands that accurate assessment of property is critical to funding local schools, county government, and a host of public services and programs. I’m proud of the job she’s done as Deputy State Auditor and wholeheartedly endorse her for the top spot.”
Cindy Byrd is the current Deputy State Auditor for Local Government Services, and has worked for the State Auditor's office for 21 years. Cindy Byrd is a CPA, and member of the Oklahoma State Society of CPAs, American Institute of CPAs, and member of the American Board of Forensic Accountants. Specifically tasked by the State Auditor & Inspector with auditing local and county governments, Cindy Byrd oversaw operations that cleared a five-year backlog of audits while exposing waste and corruption. In the last fiscal year, she oversaw 304 of the 411 audits published by the agency.
